The Herald of Nurgle: Typhus
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there exists a being so malevolent, so corrupted by the power of Chaos, that his very presence causes the fabric of reality to writhe in agony. His name is Typhus, Herald of Nurgle, and he is the instrument of the Plague God’s will.
A Life of Corruption
Typhus was born Calas Typhon on the toxic planet of Barbarus, a world where the native inhabitants were twisted by the corrupting influence of Chaos. As a child, Typhon was afflicted with strange and terrifying powers, which he struggled to control. Objects would shudder and smash around him when he was frightened or angered, and plants would wither and die under his gaze. Despite these difficulties, Typhon learned to master his powers, and by the time he reached maturity, he had become stronger in his resolve to succeed than any of his peers.
The Death Guard
When Mortarion, the Primarch of the Death Guard, defected from the Overlords of Barbarus, Typhon was the first person he encountered. The young child helped lead Mortarion to safety, and this act of loyalty earned him a place among the Primarch’s earliest followers. As the Death Guard grew in power and influence, Typhon rose through the ranks, becoming a champion of Mortarion’s early wars against the Warlord of Barbarus. When the Emperor reclaimed Mortarion as one of his lost sons, Typhon was among those chosen to join the ranks of the superhuman warriors born from the Primarch’s gene-seed.
The Horus Heresy
During the Great Crusade, Typhon proved himself to be a formidable warrior, shrugging off wounds and hostile actions with ease. He became a legend among his comrades, and his ability to withstand even the most grievous injuries earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. However, Typhon’s allegiance to Chaos predated that of his own Primarch, and he secretly worshiped the Gods of Chaos, receiving revelations and guidance from the Warp.
The Fall of the Death Guard
As the Horus Heresy unfolded, Typhon played a key role in the downfall of the Death Guard. He orchestrated the massacre of loyalist Space Marines on Isstvan III, and later led half of the Death Guard in a splinter fleet, waging a campaign of misery and misdirection against the Dark Angels. Typhon’s ultimate goal was to bring about the corruption of his own Primarch, Mortarion, and he succeeded in doing so, leading the Death Guard into the abyss of Chaos.
