Cadia Warhammer 40K

The Fortress World of Cadia: A Bastion Against Chaos

Located in the heart of the Eye of Terror, Cadia is a terrestrial Fortress World that has been a thorn in the side of Chaos for centuries. This heavily fortified planet is situated in the Cadian Gate, the only stable route into and out of the Eye of Terror large enough to allow the passage of battlefleets.

A History of Conflict

Cadia’s history is marked by constant conflict with the forces of Chaos. The planet was first colonized by humans who worshipped the four Gods of Chaos, but this society was eventually wiped out by the Word Bearers Legion. The planet was later resettled and became a key stronghold for the Imperium of Man.

The Pylons of Cadia

One of the most unusual features of Cadia is the mysterious Pylons that dot its surface. These structures, which predate human colonization, are believed to be the reason for the existence of the Cadian Gate. Despite numerous attempts to study them, the Pylons remain shrouded in mystery.

A Military Society

Cadian society is heavily militarized, with 71.75% of its population under arms. Children are taught how to strip and reassemble a lasgun before they can read, and all citizens are required to serve in the defense forces. This martial theme extends to every aspect of life on Cadia, from civilian clothing to the design of cities.

Cities as Fortresses

Cadian cities, known as Kasrs, are designed to be fortresses in their own right. Each Kasr is protected by powerful Void Shields and is surrounded by rings of massive earthworks studded with gun emplacements and weapons batteries. The streets of each Kasr are laid out in elaborate geometric patterns, allowing the Cadians to hold each city for months or even years in the event of an attack.

Economy and Industry

Cadia is heavily industrialized, with a large population of skilled workers dedicated to producing military equipment. The planet is the largest exporter of arms and munitions in the region, and its Shock Troopers are equipped with only the best military equipment.

The Law of Decipherability

Due to the constant death toll from Chaos incursions, the Cadians have implemented the Law of Decipherability. This law requires that every graveyard on Cadia be maintained by local priests who routinely check the tombstones of the honored dead for legibility. When a section of the cemetery is deemed illegible, the graves are exhumed and the bones are added to a communal pit.

The Fall of Cadia

Despite its formidable defenses, Cadia ultimately fell to the forces of Chaos during the Thirteenth Black Crusade. The planet was shattered, and its population was decimated. The survivors were forced to flee, leaving behind the ruins of their once-great world.
