The Howling Griffons: A Legacy of Valor
Early Campaigns (M39-M41)
The Howling Griffons Chapter has a storied history, with numerous notable campaigns under their belt. One such campaign was the Angevin Crusade (322-384.M39), where they fought alongside other Space Marine Chapters to bring order to the galaxy.
In 109.M40, the Dennar IV Suppression saw the Howling Griffons’ 3rd Company, led by Captain Penvath Joachim, respond to a distress call from the besieged planet. The Griffons rallied the local forces and led a long and bloody struggle to clear the planet of cultists and daemons. This action forged a lasting oath between the Howling Griffons and the people of Dennar IV.
The Jorun Retaliation (143.M41)
The Howling Griffons played a key role in the Jorun Retaliation, a campaign to stop the renegade General Jorun and his Dark Eldar masters. The full Chapter, supported by the Ultramarines and Sons of Orar, launched a strike against Jorun’s forces on Asturia. The 4th Company, led by Chaplain Armand Titus, delivered the killing blow to Jorun, sealing the fate of the Heraklion Ironclads.
Later Campaigns (M41-M42)
The Howling Griffons continued to fight in various campaigns, including the Lazar Blockade (857.M41), where they overwhelmed and obliterated a Tomb World. They also participated in the Badab War (906-909.M41), despite being severely depleted in numbers.
In 951.M41, the Howling Griffons brought the Amar secession to a swift end with rapid strikes. They later took part in the Crusade of Fire, led by Captain Xerxes.
Recent Conflicts (998.M41-Present)
The Howling Griffons sent eight companies to participate in the 13th Black Crusade, including the 1st Company, which tracked down and persecuted a company of Night Lords. During the campaign in the Mackan System, the 5th Company was attacked by Chaos Knights of House Khomentis.
The Chapter also accompanied the Dark Angels in the Siege of the Fenris System (999.M41) and participated in the Indomitus Crusade. More recently, they sent three companies to Vigilus in the War of Beasts and later to the Nachmund Rift War (001.M42-025.M42).
Ongoing Battles
The Howling Griffons continue to fight in various conflicts, including the Plague Wars, where they provided six companies to aid Ultramar. Their bravery and valor have earned them a revered place among the Space Marine Chapters.
