Lion El Jonson Warhammer 40K – Part 5 (Part 5 of 7)

The Quest for Terra

In the aftermath of the Trial of Curze, a coalition of loyalist leaders, including Sanguinius, Lion El’Jonson, and Guilliman, joined forces to breach the Ruinstorm and reach Terra, where they hoped to aid the besieged Emperor. As they navigated the treacherous Ruinstorm, they encountered unspeakable horrors and learned of an entity known as the “Pilgrim” that was spreading destruction throughout the galaxy.

A Desperate Gambit

During the Battle of Pyrrhan, Sanguinius received a vision that compelled him to divert course to Davin, a world shrouded in mystery and terror. Despite their reservations, Guilliman and the Lion agreed to trust Sanguinius, and the three leaders launched a perilous assault on the planet. The Lion’s Dark Angels clashed with the enemy, while Sanguinius boarded the Invincible Reason to extract the prophetic Konrad Curze.

A Portal to Madness

As Sanguinius delved deeper into the heart of Davin, he became trapped in a portal, facing off against the Daemon Madail. Guilliman and the Lion fought valiantly to reach him, but their efforts were hindered by a vicious battle that raged across the planet and in orbit. The Samothrace, Guilliman’s flagship, was destroyed by the Daemonship Veritas Ferrum, and the fate of Sanguinius hung in the balance.

Brotherhood of Steel

In the heat of battle, Guilliman and the Lion finally found common ground, fighting side by side as brothers. Together, they brought down a massive Soul Grinder, clearing a path for Sanguinius to escape. As the Space Marine forces evacuated to space, Davin was reduced to rubble by Cyclonic Torpedoes, banishing the Daemonic fleet and revealing a breach in the Ruinstorm.

A New Path

The breach led directly to Terra, but Horus had anticipated this route and erected a formidable blockade. Undeterred, Guilliman and the Lion devised a plan to distract the enemy, while Sanguinius and the Blood Angels made a break for Terra. The Lion, driven by a thirst for vengeance, vowed to attack worlds captured by Horus, relishing the prospect of burning traitor territory.

The Passage of the Angels

As the Astronomican went dark, the Lion became consumed by nihilism, abandoning his quest for Terra in favor of a spiteful purge. With the Tuchulcha guiding him, he oversaw the destruction of Chemos and Barbarus, homeworlds of the traitor legions. This campaign, dubbed the Passage of the Angels, left a trail of devastation in its wake.

A Crusade of Vengeance

The Lion eventually made his way to Deliverance, where Corax and Leman Russ were mustering their forces. The Lion questioned the Raven Lord’s absence from major fronts, but Russ pledged his support for the Crusade of Vengeance. Corax, however, remained cautious, committing only a small force to the Lion’s campaign.

Reunion on Caliban

The Lion arrived too late to influence the battle on Terra, and the Emperor was interred on the Golden Throne. Wracked with grief, the Lion returned to Caliban, only to find his homeworld in chaos. Luther, once a trusted friend, had succumbed to Chaos, and the planet was torn apart by civil war. The Lion’s fury was unleashed, and the planet burned as he sought to rid it of the taint of Chaos.
