M31 Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 6)

The Horus Heresy: A Galaxy in Turmoil

Early Battles and Betrayals

The Emperor’s Children, led by Lord Commander Eidolon, rendezvoused with the 63rd Expeditionary Fleet in the Isstvan system. Meanwhile, Fulgrim, the Primarch of the Emperor’s Children, met with Ferrus Manus, the Primarch of the Iron Hands, in the Callinedes system to persuade him to join Horus’ cause.

The Space Wolves, led by Leman Russ, launched a devastating attack on the planet of Prospero, home of the Thousand Sons Legion. Magnus the Red, the Primarch of the Thousand Sons, escaped and fled to the Planet of the Sorcerers.

Schism and Betrayal

The Dark Mechanicum unleashed a powerful scrapcode into the Martian information grid, crippling the planet’s manufactories. The Fabricator-General, Kane, became the new leader of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Nathaniel Garro, a loyalist captain, was tasked by Malcador, the Sigillite, to find other exceptional Astartes to join his cause. Garro became the first Knight-Errant and set out on his mission.

The Drop Site Massacre

The loyalist execution fleet arrived in the Isstvan system, intent on quelling the rebellion. However, the traitor legions, led by Horus, had set a trap. The four reinforcing legions opened fire on the first wave of loyalists, trapping them in a pincer.

Fulgrim killed Ferrus Manus, signaling the start of the massacre. Corvus Corax, the Primarch of the Raven Guard, led the few surviving loyalists in a desperate breakout. Vulkan, the Primarch of the Salamanders, was missing in action.

Aftermath

About half of the Imperial military defected to Horus’ side. The galaxy was plunged into chaos as the Horus Heresy raged on.

The Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors invaded the Paramar system, while Fulgrim defied Horus’ order to travel to Mars. His subordinates attempted to torture the daemon out of him, but he remained resolute.

The daemonic incursion on the death world Pythos destroyed the survivors of the Iron Hands 111th Clan-Company. The Horus Heresy had become a catastrophic civil war that would shake the very foundations of the Imperium.

The Imperium Teeters on the Brink

As the Horus Heresy raged on, the Imperium teetered on the brink of collapse. The once-mighty legions were now divided, with some loyal to the Emperor and others sworn to Horus.

The fate of humanity hung in the balance as the traitor legions pressed their advantage. The loyalists, however, refused to give up. They vowed to fight on, no matter the cost, to preserve the Imperium and restore order to the galaxy.

The Horus Heresy would be a conflict for the ages, a struggle that would determine the course of human history. The outcome was far from certain, but one thing was clear: only one side could emerge victorious.
