Necromunda Planet Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 6)

Necromunda: A Planet of Unrelenting Desolation

Located in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, Necromunda is a world that has been ravaged by centuries of unchecked industrialization. The once-thriving planet is now a barren wasteland, its surface scarred by the remnants of factories, machines, and pollution.

The Ash Wastes

The ash wastes that cover most of Necromunda’s surface are a constant reminder of the planet’s troubled past. Composed of metallic oxides, powdered plastics, and inorganic chemicals, these wastes are highly corrosive and toxic, making it difficult for any living organism to survive. The ash itself can be miles deep, forming vast dust dunes that shift and change with the winds.

The Hives

Scattered across the surface of Necromunda are massive hive cities, each one a self-contained metropolis that teems with life. These hives are connected by a network of travel tubes and subterranean passages, allowing citizens to move freely between them. However, the hives are not without their dangers, as the constant threat of ash storms and toxic waste poses a significant risk to all who live there.

The Sludge Seas

What remains of Necromunda’s ancient oceans is now nothing more than a thick, chemical-laden sludge. The consistency of this sludge varies, but it is always poisonous and hostile to life. Despite these conditions, some hardy mutants have made their homes in the sludge seas, eking out a meager existence in this unforgiving environment.

The Forbidden Cities

Deep beneath the ash wastes lie ancient military tunnels and bunkers, constructed as a means of connecting the hives and providing a safe haven in times of war or disaster. Long forgotten, these tunnels have been rediscovered and secretly recolonized, becoming known as the Forbidden Cities. It is here that valuable psyker drugs can be found, making the Forbidden Cities a prize worth fighting for.

Surviving on Necromunda

Life on Necromunda is harsh and unforgiving, with ash storms, toxic waste, and other hazards posing a constant threat to survival. Despite these dangers, many have made their homes on this desolate planet, eking out a living in the hives or scavenging what they can from the wastes. For those who are brave (or foolhardy) enough, Necromunda offers a unique opportunity to explore the unknown, to discover hidden secrets, and to make a name for oneself in a world that is as unforgiving as it is fascinating.
