The Word Bearers: A Legion of Chaos
In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the Word Bearers, once a loyal legion of Space Marines, became infamous for their unwavering dedication to Chaos. Led by the enigmatic and powerful Lorgar, they have waged a relentless war against the Imperium of Man.
Early Betrayal
The Word Bearers’ betrayal began with the construction of the Furious Abyss, a massive ship built on the Jovian moon of Thule. The ship’s first kill was the Ultramarines vessel Fist of Macragge, which was heading in for repairs at the Vangelis space port. The astropaths of the Fist of Macragge managed to send out a warning, but it was too late. The Furious Abyss had already set its sights on the Ultramarines’ homeworld of Macragge.
The Shadow Crusade
Lorgar led his own Shadow Crusade in conjunction with the World Eaters, hoping to create a massive Warp storm that would cut off Ultramar from Terra. The crusade was a devastating success, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The Ultramarines were shocked by the sheer scale of the attack, and the Word Bearers were able to make significant gains.
The Siege of Terra
The Word Bearers played a key role in the Siege of Terra, one of the most pivotal battles of the Horus Heresy. Led by Zardu Layak, a small force of Word Bearers joined the Warmaster’s army in the assault on the Imperial Palace. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the Word Bearers fought valiantly, but ultimately, they were unable to breach the palace defenses.
Post-Heresy
In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the Word Bearers were forced to flee to the Eye of Terror, where they have remained ever since. They have continued to wage war against the Imperium, launching twisted wars of faith against humanity. From their stronghold on the Daemon World of Sicarus, Lorgar watches over his legion and orchestrates the vast corruption that plagues the Imperium.
Notable Engagements
The Word Bearers have been involved in numerous battles and campaigns throughout the ages. Some notable engagements include:
- The Cleansing of the Orbstar
- The Blackstar Liberation
- The Battle of Gerio
- The Bissan Ambush
- The Crusade of Fire

These battles demonstrate the Word Bearers’ unwavering commitment to Chaos and their unrelenting war against the Imperium. Despite their defeats, the Word Bearers remain a powerful and feared foe, and their legacy continues to shape the grim darkness of the 41st millennium.
