Word Bearers Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 6)

The Corruption of the Word Bearers

In the early days of the Great Crusade, Lorgar, the Primarch of the Word Bearers Legion, began to question the Imperial Truth. Encouraged by Erebus and Kor Phaeron, who had already succumbed to the worship of the Ruinous Powers, Lorgar discovered that the various human cultures across the galaxy shared a common origin and underlying message. He believed that the countless legends of divinity, despite their differences, all pointed to the existence of powers beyond the veil.

The Pilgrimage

Lorgar embarked on a mythological journey, known as the Pilgrimage, to uncover the universal truth of the universe. He joined the 1,301st Expedition Fleet and eventually arrived on Cadia, where he received validation for his theories. Ingethel, a native of Cadia, was anointed by the gods as Lorgar’s guide and undertook a ritual that elevated her to the ranks of the daemonic.

The Revelation

Ingethel led the Serrated Sun Chapter of the Word Bearers into the Great Eye, where they witnessed the failure of the Eldar Empire firsthand. She revealed to the Word Bearers that the Eldar failed because they were unable to accept the Primordial Truth. The Word Bearers learned that humanity must accept Chaos in order to survive.

The Corruption of Horus

Lorgar and the Word Bearers spent years attempting to enlighten humanity about the universal truths of the universe. They secretly pledged themselves to the Dark Gods and hid their true allegiance. Through subterfuge, they managed to sway several Primarchs to their cause, including Horus Lupercal.

The Horus Heresy

When it became clear that humanity could not be enlightened without bloodshed, Lorgar and Erebus helped orchestrate the corruption of Horus. The Word Bearers abandoned all pretenses of loyalty and openly preached the Primordial Truth. They changed their armor to crimson red and utilized Daemonically Space Marines known as the Gal Vorbak.

The Fall of the Word Bearers

The Word Bearers Legion, once one of the most militarily successful Legions in the Crusade, had fallen to the corruption of Chaos. They had become a force of darkness, driven by a desire to spread the Primordial Truth across the galaxy. The Horus Heresy had begun, and the fate of humanity hung in the balance.
