Raptors Chapter Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 4)

Raptors Chapter: A History of Resilience and Adaptation

Early Campaigns: Badab Sector and Beyond

The Raptors Chapter answered the call to arms in 906.M41, joining forces with the Red Scorpions, Fire Angels, and Salamanders to combat Secessionist forces in the Badab Sector. Led by Lias Issodon, the Raptors deployed their 2nd, 5th, and 6th Companies, bolstered by assault reserves and scouts. Despite being passed over for command, the Raptors formed lasting bonds with their fellow Chapters.

During the first year and a half of combat, the Raptors engaged in frontline duties and acted as mobile reserves. Notably, they devised a cunning plan to liberate the planet Surngraad, executing a successful assault on the polar defense fortress. Although the battle barge War Talon suffered severe damage, it remained operational.

Heavy Losses and Rebuilding

By 907.M41, the Raptors had lost between 35% and 60% of their original fighting force. The worst losses occurred during battles against the Mantis Warriors and Astral Claws in the Gargathea System, including the destruction of the strike cruiser Arias Vex. Despite these setbacks, the Raptors contributed to the eventual victory on Gargathea III.

Deemed “combat-ineffective” due to heavy losses, the Raptors were withdrawn from the war in 908.M41. They refocused their attention on the growing conflicts in the Ultima Segmentum, leaving a small force behind in the Maelstrom Zone.

Survival on Jemadal

In 969.M41, while en route to assault the Ork World of Gramnia Major, the Raptors’ ships were thrown off course and crash-landed on the Death World of Jemadal. The Chapter’s Techmarines adapted the Power Armour’s breathing apparatus to incorporate osmotic gills, allowing the Raptors to subsist on the planet’s heavily moisturized air.

After surviving on Jemadal for seven years, the Raptors were rescued by the Ultramarines Battle Barge Rath’s Honour in 976.M41. This experience transformed the Raptors into jungle warfare specialists.

Later Campaigns: Armageddon and Taros

In 998.M41, the Raptors deployed to the equatorial jungle and vapour woods of Armageddon, utilizing their deadly jungle warfare skills alongside the Armageddon Ork Hunters and Catachan Jungle Fighters.

During the Taros Campaign, the Raptors committed a strike force of the 3rd and 6th Companies, led by Captains Orelius and Kaedes. They spearheaded the invasion of Taros, neutralizing planetary defenses, and later formed the rear guard to ensure the safe retreat of Imperial forces.

Captain Kaedes was severely injured during the campaign and later interred in a Dreadnought.
