The Fallen Warhammer 40K – Part 3 (Part 3 of 4)

The Fractured Remnants of a Once-Great Legion

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, the Fallen Angels are a constant reminder of the Imperium’s greatest failure. These genetically engineered superhuman warriors were once part of the most esteemed and respected Legions, but now they are scattered, broken, and often serve the very powers of Chaos they once swore to destroy.

A Legacy of Rebellion and Betrayal

Many Fallen Angels continue to wage war against the Imperium, driven by a burning hatred for the Emperor and all that he represents. Others have succumbed to the corrupting influence of Chaos, embracing the dark powers that promise them strength, power, and revenge. These corrupted warriors are forever changed, their souls bound to the will of the Chaos Gods, and their loyalty is as fleeting as the wind.

The Allure of Chaos

The Chaos Gods themselves vie for the loyalty of the Fallen Angels, each offering promises of power, redemption, and salvation. Khorne, the Blood God, claims the most ruthless and warlike of the Fallen, while Nurgle, the Plague God, whispers sweet nothings to those consumed by despair. Tzeentch, the Changer of Ways, weaves intricate webs of deceit and betrayal, drawing in the most cunning and manipulative of the Fallen. Slaanesh, the Dark Prince, offers indulgences beyond imagining to those who have already succumbed to depravity.

Those Who Refuse to Submit

Not all Fallen Angels have surrendered to the allure of Chaos. Some remain true to their original ideals, convinced that Luther was the true loyalist and that the Lion was tainted by Chaos. These unrepentant warriors lead solitary existences, often becoming mercenaries or pirates, and occasionally banding together in Warbands to wage campaigns against the Imperium.

The Unforgiven’s Quest for Redemption

For the Dark Angels and the rest of the Unforgiven, the hunt for the Fallen is a matter of honor and redemption. They believe that only by finding and either redeeming or slaying the Fallen can they restore their own honor and trust within the Emperor’s eyes. Consequently, they prioritize the hunt above all other concerns, diverting resources and attention to the destruction or capture of Fallen Warbands.

A Grim Fate Awaits the Captured

Those Fallen who are captured are taken back to the Rock, where Interrogator-Chaplains attempt to extract repentance from them. Occasionally, they succeed, and the captured Fallen dies quickly. More often than not, however, the captured warrior refuses to submit, and suffers a long, agonizing death at the hands of those who would save his soul.
