Vigilus Unites Against the Forces of Chaos
In a desperate bid to reclaim Vigilus from the grip of Chaos, Inquisitor Caratvolnus brought together a coalition of Imperial commanders, Space Marine leaders, and Sisters of Battle. Through sheer force of will, he united these disparate factions under his leadership, forging a powerful alliance determined to destroy the remaining Noctilith Crowns.
The Battle for Oteck Hivesprawl
With his newly formed coalition, Caratvolnus launched a bold assault on the Word Bearers’ stronghold in Oteck Hivesprawl. Utilizing his psychic powers to banish Daemons, he fought his way through enemy lines alongside Imperial Navy aircraft and ground forces from the Tallarn Desert Raiders and Tekarn Iron Men. The combined might of these forces allowed them to reach the heart of the Word Bearers’ position and destroy the Noctilith Crown.
A Series of Victories and Setbacks
Caratvolnus’s successes continued as he struck at Bore-Hive Ultrist, facing fierce resistance from Black Legion Chaos Space Marines. Despite suffering heavy losses, he emerged victorious once more. However, his next move, targeting the eastern Outskirts of Mortwald, proved to be a misstep. The Catachans fought valiantly but failed to encounter any Noctilith Crowns, forcing Caratvolnus to reevaluate his strategy.
The Cult of Martyrdom and Saint Celestine’s Intervention
As the conflict raged on, a growing cult of martyrdom swept across Vigilus, fueled by the Ecclesiarchy’s encouragement. Saint Celestine herself appeared in Hyperia Hivesprawl, rallying Imperial defenders and slowing the Black Legion’s advance. Her subsequent defense of Saint’s Haven came at a great cost, with tens of thousands of Imperial troops lost. Celestine’s actions inspired the Orders of the Bloody Rose to launch a final attack on the corrupted city of Dontoria.
The Purge of Dontoria
Celestine led the charge against Dontoria, fighting through hordes of Poxwalkers and ordering a ferocious bombardment from orbiting vessels. The Sisters of Battle then forged into the city’s outer districts, purging the entire false continent. This decisive victory sent a powerful message to Chaos: Vigilus would not be easily claimed.
A Glimmer of Hope
Despite the many challenges still facing Vigilus, the Imperium’s efforts had begun to bear fruit. The destruction of the Noctilith Crowns had partially receded the madness and despair that had gripped the world, allowing for easier communication and boosting Imperial morale. As the fate of Vigilus hung in the balance, the Imperium’s defenders remained resolute, determined to reclaim their world from the forces of Chaos.
