Unleashing the Darkness: The Black Legion’s Reign of Terror
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, a legion of Chaos Space Marines has earned a reputation as the most feared and reviled force in the galaxy. Born from the ashes of the Sons of Horus, the Black Legion is a traitor legion that has dedicated itself to spreading chaos and destruction throughout the Imperium.
The Origins of Betrayal
The Black Legion’s history dates back to the Horus Heresy, when the Warmaster Horus rebelled against the Emperor. Corrupted by Chaos, Horus’ treachery tainted his entire legion, leading to their downfall. Regrouping on the world of Maeleum, the Sons of Horus built a fortress-tomb for their fallen leader, revering him even in death.
A Desperate Gambit
As the Sons of Horus dwindled in number, they turned to dark rituals to survive. Possession by Chaos daemons saved the legion but at a terrible cost, forever changing them. It was then that Abaddon, former First Captain of the Sons of Horus, revealed his plan to reform the legion and finish the war Horus had begun.
Rebirth of the Black Legion
Abaddon tracked down the Vengeful Spirit and Falkus Kibre, an old Sons of Horus captain, deep within the Eye of Terror. Together, they destroyed the Emperor’s Children fortress, killed the clone of Horus, and declared Abaddon the rightful successor of the Warmaster. Renaming his forces the Black Legion, Abaddon rejected Horus’ name and all its associated failures.
The Long War
With Abaddon at the helm, the Black Legion faced its first serious threat in the form of Thagus Daravek, a Death Guard warlord. Emerging victorious, Abaddon’s power grew, and he gathered allies across the Eye of Terror, including Daemon Primarchs. Using Chaos to further his goals, Abaddon has waged the Long War on the Imperium ever since, launching thirteen devastating Black Crusades.
Warbands of the Black Legion
Today, the Black Legion operates in countless small warbands across the galaxy, often called upon to spearhead Abaddon’s notorious Black Crusades. Notable warbands include the Adamantine Beasts, the Ashen Dead, and the Bringers of Decay.
Legacy of Terror
The Black Legion remains a formidable force in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, feared by all who know their name. Their legacy of terror continues to spread, as they bring chaos and destruction to the Imperium, ever-loyal to the Warmaster Abaddon and the dark gods of Chaos.
The Hidden Agenda
Abaddon’s ultimate goal is to expand the Eye of Terror, a realm of chaos and darkness, to engulf Terra itself. To achieve this, he has been secretly destroying ancient monoliths that hold back the tides of the Warp. The Black Crusades are merely a cover for this more sinister purpose.
Leadership and Structure
The Black Legion is led by Abaddon, who has regained a sense of discipline and purpose in the Legion. The Legion’s tactics are shaped by its lack of numerical strength compared to other Legions, and commanders are adept at using their troops to the best effect.
Gene-Seed and Corruption
The Black Legion consists of a large portion of former Luna Wolves Gene-seed, which has been corrupted by the regular practice of seeking Daemonic possession. Such mutations are seen as a mark of favor from the Gods of Chaos and are generally displayed with pride.
The Ongoing Crusade
The Black Legion continues to wage war against the Imperium, with Abaddon at its helm. The Legion’s ultimate goal remains the same: to expand the Eye of Terror and bring about a new era of chaos and darkness. The Imperium must remain vigilant if it hopes to survive the ongoing onslaught of the Black Legion.
