The Unyielding Sentinels of the Grey Knights
Standing tall, twice the height of a man, the Grey Knights Dreadnoughts are an awe-inspiring sight to behold. Their very presence causes the ground to shake as their furnaces roar in the heat of battle. These mechanical warriors are the embodiment of the Chapter’s unyielding spirit and unwavering dedication to the Imperium.
A Legacy of Honour
Each Dreadnought is a living connection to the Chapter’s storied past, a symbol of glorious victories, great deeds, and slain heroes. Their mechanized forms are as unflagging as their will, making them a potent reminder of what the Grey Knights stand for. The Dreadnoughts serve as a legend that their Battle-Brothers strive to emulate, inspiring them to redouble their efforts in the face of overwhelming odds.
Venerable Warriors
Dreadnoughts are experienced warriors who can adopt any role on the battlefield. They are equally capable of spearheading an assault, providing long-range fire support, or serving as secondary commanders. Their wisdom and counsel are invaluable to their brethren, who often seek their guidance in times of uncertainty.
The Rite of Interment
It is customary for personal consent to be given before a mortally wounded Grey Knight is interred within a Dreadnought. Many Battle-Brothers prefer to rest in peace as heroes of the Chapter, their names engraved in the tombs below the Fortress-Monastery on Titan. However, those who choose to continue fighting are granted a new lease on life, their spirits merged with the machine to become an unstoppable force on the battlefield.
Summoned in Times of Need
The Dreadnoughts are summoned only during times of great battle, when victory cannot be achieved through the valour of mortal men alone. In such moments, the Master Armourers of the Grey Knights awaken the Dreadnoughts, unleashing their fury upon the enemy. Once the darkness has passed, the Dreadnoughts return to the Chamber of Heroes, their dreams filled with visions of battles yet to come.
Equipment and Upgrades
Grey Knights Dreadnoughts possess Aegis Armour, allowing them to fend off attacks by Psykers and Daemons. Their left arms are usually armed with a Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon or Nemesis Doomfist, while their right arms are fitted with a variety of heavy weapons. They can also be upgraded with blessings, extra armour, hunter-killer missiles, psycannon bolts, and searchlights.
The ‘Doomglaive’ Configuration
During the Garanhir Rebellion, the 7th Brotherhood of the Grey Knights developed the ‘Doomglaive’ configuration, arming Dreadnoughts with Nemesis Doomglaives and Psycannons. This combination proved devastatingly effective against massed daemonic infantry, mutants, and Chaos cultists, and has since become a staple of Grey Knights doctrine.
