The Unyielding Protectors of the Imperium
In a grim, dark future where Chaos daemons threaten to consume all, one legendary Space Marine Chapter stands resolute against the void: the Grey Knights. As the Chamber Militant for the Ordo Malleus, they specialize in hunting and exterminating these otherworldly abominations.
Forged in secrecy, each member of the Grey Knights undergoes a brutal selection process, followed by an unrelenting training regime that pushes them to the limits of human endurance. Their existence is a closely guarded secret, known only to the Inquisition and Chapter Masters. Many believe them to be mere myth, while those who encounter them are often silenced forever.
To combat the daemonic hordes, Grey Knights must tap into the very fabric of the Warp. As powerful psykers, they channel their energies into a protective aura known as The Aegis, rendering them immune to corruption and able to wield forbidden magic. This unique connection to the Warp allows them to scour blasphemous texts and harness tainted artifacts without succumbing to the corrupting influence of Chaos.
The Grey Knights hold a singular honor among the Adeptus Astartes: in over ten thousand years, not a single one of their number has ever defected to Chaos. Their unpainted armor, adorned with the sigil of Malcador the Sigilite, is a testament to their unyielding commitment to purity and their unwavering loyalty to the Imperium.
As the darkness closes in, the Grey Knights remain an unbreakable shield against the void. Their legacy, forged in defiance of fate, will endure as a beacon of hope in a grim, dark future. For in a universe torn apart by Chaos, the Grey Knights stand as the ultimate bastion of humanity’s unyielding spirit.
The Secret Origins of the Grey Knights
Legend has it that the Chapter was formed during the final days of the Horus Heresy. The Emperor, foreseeing the devastating consequences of the Heresy, set in motion a plan to create a defense against the forces of Chaos. Malcador, the Sigilite and closest servant of the Emperor, was tasked with finding men suitable for this noble endeavor. He scoured the Imperium, seeking out individuals who possessed the necessary strength and loyalty to undertake this burden.
The chosen few, including survivors of the Eisenstein incident, were gathered by Malcador shortly before the Siege of Terra. The Emperor himself surveyed the recruits and granted his approval for the project to proceed. The recruits then split into two groups, with the four lords laying the framework for the Inquisition, while the Space Marines and Malcador traveled to Saturn’s moon, Titan.
On Titan, the group found a fortress-monastery already prepared and stocked with everything necessary to create a new army of Space Marines. The fortress was hidden away from the ravages of the Horus Heresy, protected by Macro-Geller fields and sigilic rites. Malcador appointed Janus, one of the original Space Marines, as the leader of the Grey Knights and cast his greatest enchantment yet, hiding Titan away from Horus in the Warp itself.
