The Enigmatic Lion
In the midst of turmoil, the Lion found his Legion beset by internal strife. The once-proud warriors had suffered greatly in a series of ill-fated campaigns, and their morale was at an all-time low. To make matters worse, they were consumed by an inflated sense of pride and self-importance. It was a malaise that threatened to destroy the very fabric of the Legion.
Upon reuniting with his sons, the Lion took immediate action to address the situation. He challenged the captain of the company presented before him to a duel, despite being at a disadvantage without his Power Armour. The outcome was far from certain, but in the end, the Lion emerged victorious. This bold move earned him the respect of his sons, and it marked the beginning of a new era for the Legion.
A New Purpose
The Lion’s first act as the leader of the Legion was to merge the teachings of Caliban with the Hexagrammaton. This bold move created a new and refined system that would guide the Legion forward. With his Xana allies by his side, the Lion set out on a crusade to reunite the scattered companies of Dark Angels across the galaxy.
As he traveled from world to world, the Lion demonstrated his worth through his actions and skills, rather than mere words and promises. He challenged the captains of each company to a duel, and in every instance, he emerged victorious. This approach earned him the loyalty and admiration of his sons, and soon, the Legion was united under his leadership.
The Council of Masters
The Lion’s next move was to convene a council of masters on the planet Gramarye. It was here that he faced off against the ceremonial Council Champion, Pyrhus Calagat, in an epic duel that lasted for hours. In the end, the Lion emerged victorious, and he was hailed as the Grandmaster of the First Legion.
With his authority established, the Lion set about formalizing the various informal orders within the Legion. He created new wings, including the Deathwing, Ravenwing, and Dreadwing, each with its own distinct character and purpose. The Lion also placed new masters over each wing, ensuring that the Legion was led by the most capable and experienced warriors.
The Great Crusade
The Lion’s leadership was put to the test during the Great Crusade, a period of intense conflict that saw the Legion face off against countless enemies. One of the most notable campaigns was the Rangdan Xenocides, a brutal and devastating war that pushed the Legion to its limits.
Despite suffering heavy losses, the Lion remained resolute, and he led his sons to victory against overwhelming odds. However, the war also saw the emergence of a mysterious figure, Alpharius, who offered aid to the Lion in exchange for his support in the future. The Lion’s response to this offer remains shrouded in mystery, but it is clear that he was deeply conflicted about the proposal.
The Horus Heresy
The Lion’s leadership during the Great Crusade earned him great renown, but it also created tension among the other Primarchs. Some saw him as a rival, while others admired his skills and abilities. However, when the Emperor appointed Horus as the Warmaster, the Lion was not considered for the role.
Despite this setback, the Lion remained loyal to the Emperor and continued to lead his Legion with distinction. However, the seeds of discord had been sown, and the Lion’s relationship with Luther, one of his most trusted lieutenants, began to fray. The tension between them would eventually boil over into open conflict, setting the stage for one of the most tragic events in the history of the Legion.
The Fall of Caliban
Fifty years after the events of the Great Crusade, Luther and his followers were faced with a widespread rebellion on Caliban. The planet was plagued by monsters and warp-creatures, and the Knights of the Order were torn apart by internal conflicts.
As the situation spiralled out of control, Luther declared his independence from Terra and the Lion, setting the stage for a catastrophic confrontation. The Lion, determined to quell the rebellion and restore order, led his Legion into the heart of the conflict. The outcome of this battle would determine the fate of Caliban and the future of the Dark Angels.
