Necron Warhammer 40K – Part 1 (Part 1 of 6)

The Rise of the Necrons

In a distant corner of the galaxy, a long-dormant civilization is stirring. The Necrons, mechanical warriors forged from the ancient Necrontyr, have lain silent for sixty million years. Their history stretches back further than that of the Eldar, and their empire once spanned the galaxy. Now, they seek to reclaim their lost dominion.

A Legacy of War

The Necrontyr were a fragile species, beset by solar winds and radiation storms that shortened their lives. Despite their technological prowess, they were unable to overcome their biological weaknesses. Their cities were built with mortality in mind, with grand tomb complexes outnumbering the living. As they expanded their empire, they encountered the Old Ones, one of the first sentient races. Tensions between the Necrontyr dynasties eventually boiled over into the First Wars of Secession.

The War in Heaven

The War in Heaven was a catastrophic conflict that ravaged the galaxy. The Necrontyr, fueled by jealousy of the Old Ones’ seemingly eternal lifespan, initiated hostilities. The war raged for centuries, but the Necrontyr were ultimately defeated. Their civilization was left on the brink of collapse, and their unity began to fracture once more.

The Discovery of the C’tan

In their desperation, the Necrontyr sought out a new power to aid them in their struggle against the Old Ones. They discovered the C’tan, ancient star gods who promised immortality and vengeance. The C’tan offered their aid, but at a terrible cost. The Necrontyr constructed bodies of living metal to contain the C’tan’s essence, and in doing so, they sealed their own fate.

The Biotransference

The Silent King, Szarekh, was seduced by the C’tan’s promises of power and immortality. He ignored the warnings of his court astrologer, Orikan, and accepted the C’tan’s offer. The consequences of this decision would be catastrophic, and would forever change the course of Necron history. The biotransference, a process that transferred the Necrontyr’s consciousness into mechanical bodies, was a turning point in their civilization. It marked the beginning of a new era, one in which the Necrons would rise again as a force to be reckoned with.
