Night Lords Warhammer 40K – Part 6 (Part 6 of 7)

The Night Lords: Masters of Terror

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there exist few Legions as feared and reviled as the Night Lords. Theirs is a legacy of terror and bloodshed, forged in the depths of the underworld planet of Nostramo. Konrad Curze, the Primarch of the Night Lords, imbued his Legion with a unique genetic legacy that sets them apart from their brethren.

The Genetic Legacy of Curze

All Night Lords possess jet black eyes that grant them superior night vision, as well as pale skin that seems almost translucent in the dim light of the battlefield. Some Night Lords also exhibit varying degrees of precognition, inherited from their gene-sire’s own abilities. These prophetic visions can be fleeting glimpses of the future or full-blown seizures that leave the Legionnaire gasping for breath. Those who possess this ability are said to bear the Night Haunter’s Curse, and are often shunned by their comrades.

A Culture of Fear

The Night Lords have no holy crusade, no unifying belief, and no bonds of honor. They exist solely to reap the spoils of war and spread terror throughout the galaxy. Their use of terror tactics and fondness for piracy and salvage operations are the only common themes among their disparate warbands. Each Night Lord strives to inspire fear in their enemies, often adorning their armor with symbols of death and nightmare. Psychological warfare is a key aspect of their strategy, and they will stop at nothing to gain an edge over their opponents.

Recruitment and Tactics

The Night Lords recruit through various means, including abducting children from conquered worlds and absorbing other Chaos Marines into their ranks. They are known to employ underhanded tactics, using stealth and subterfuge to gain the upper hand on the battlefield. A Night Lord will attempt every trick in the book before engaging in a straightforward fight, and will only do so when they are confident of victory.

Notable Members and Vessels

The Night Lords boast a number of notable members, including Konrad Curze, Sevatar, and Zso Sahaal. Their fleet includes vessels such as the Glorianna-pattern battleship Nightfall, the battle barge Umbrea Insidior, and the aircraft Blackened. These vessels are often adorned with symbols of death and terror, striking fear into the hearts of those who dare oppose them.

The Post-Heresy Era

In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the Night Lords continue to spread terror throughout the galaxy. Theirs is a legacy of bloodshed and fear, one that will not soon be forgotten. As the Imperium of Man struggles to rebuild, the Night Lords remain a constant threat, waiting in the shadows to strike.
