The Unyielding Raven Guard
During the tumultuous era of the Great Crusade, the Raven Guard legion stood as a formidable force, boasting 80,000 Astartes and an Imperial Army Regiment known as the Therion Cohort. As one of the smallest legions, they had honed their skills in guerrilla warfare, utilizing tactics that their primarch, Corax, had perfected during his revolution against the Tech Guilds of Kiavahr.
Battle-Hardened and Loyal
The Raven Guard was among the seven legions dispatched to the Istvaan system to quell a rebellion led by the traitorous Warmaster, Horus. The fighting on Istvaan V was fierce and intense, with brother fighting against brother. Despite being out of their element, the Raven Guard fought valiantly, employing their expertise in infiltration, sabotage, and covert operations.
A Temporary Reprieve
As the traitors retreated to their fortifications, the Raven Guard seized the opportunity to regroup and re-arm. However, their respite was short-lived, as they soon found themselves facing a surprise withdrawal by the traitors. Corax, now a brooding and vengeful demigod, wielded a whip in place of his lost talons, a testament to his unyielding resolve.
A Glimmer of Hope
The arrival of a single battle barge, the Avenger, captained by Commander Branne Nev, brought a glimmer of hope to the beleaguered Raven Guard. With the battered remains of the Therion Cohort and a small contingent of reinforcements, Corax set his sights on Terra, determined to uncover the secrets of the gene-forging technology used to create the Primarchs.
Navigating Treacherous Paths
Corax’s quest for knowledge led him to the Imperial Palace, where he encountered Rogal Dorn and Malcador, the Imperial Regent. After a heated argument, the Emperor himself intervened, revealing the secrets of the gene-forging technology to Corax. The Raven Guard primarch then navigated the treacherous paths of the Luna maze, outwitting its logic engine to retrieve the coveted technology.
A New Generation of Warriors
With the gene-forging technology in hand, Corax created a new generation of warriors, splicing Primarch and Astartes genes to produce faster, stronger, and more intelligent fighters. These new warriors, dubbed “Raptors,” were deployed against a Word Bearer fortress, where they proved their worth by slaughtering veteran Word Bearers with ease.
A Traitor’s Deception
However, the Alpha Legion’s Omegon had been secretly manipulating events from behind the scenes. He covertly spiked the gene-forging technology with a daemon blood poison, using the Raven Guard’s own gene-seed to produce deformed monsters. The resulting battle was fierce, with the deformed warriors overpowering even the Alpha Legion Astartes.
Unwavering Resolve
Despite this setback, Corax remained resolute, leading the Raven Guard in full strength against traitor forces in the Battle of Yarant. His unwavering resolve inspired his allies, and together they rescued the Space Wolves. As the dust settled, Corax expressed his intent to continue resisting Horus from the shadows, ever vigilant and unyielding.
