Space Wolves – Part 12

Part 12 of 13 in Space Wolves

Honored Symbols of the Space Wolves

The Space Wolves, a proud and storied chapter of Space Marines, hold their heritage in high esteem. Their most treasured relics often bear the symbol of their primarch, Leman Russ, which serves as a tangible connection to their glorious past. This emblem is prominently displayed on many of their most sacred banners, including those carried by the Dreadnought Bjorn the Fell-Handed, who fought alongside Russ during the Great Crusade.

Warrior Culture

The Space Wolves place great value on bravery, courage, and skill among their comrades. To recognize these qualities, they award badges that denote acts of valor, which are typically painted or carved onto the armor and weapons of the recipient. While there is no formal system of awards, certain symbols have acquired special significance over time, such as the Sergeant and Veteran badges.

Task Force Identification

When Space Wolves from different Great Companies come together to form a task force, they apply an army marking to their armor and vehicles to aid identification and promote cohesion on the battlefield. One notable example is the badge used by Ragnar Blackmane’s task force, featuring a fanged skull superimposed on two crossed bones, mounted on a black lozenge.

Equipment and Vehicles

The Space Wolves’ equipment is similar to that of other Codex chapters, although some items, such as the Iron Priests’ servo-harnesses and Thunderfire Cannons, are more primitive. They also employ unique variants of Imperial cult equipment, like the Wolf Amulet and the Fang of Morkai. The chapter maintains an extensive fleet of over 100 vessels, including Battle Barges, Hunter Class Destroyer Squadrons, and Gladius and Nova Class Frigate Squadrons.

Notable Space Wolves

Some of the most notable Space Wolves include Leman Russ, the primarch; Bjorn the Fell-Handed, the first Great Wolf; and Logan Grimnar, the current Great Wolf. Other prominent members include Ragnar Blackmane, a Wolf Lord, and Arjac Rockfist, the personal champion of Logan Grimnar.

Camouflage Scheme

The Space Wolves employ a distinctive camouflage scheme, which helps them blend in with their surroundings and strike from the shadows.

Legion History

The Space Wolves were one of the original 20 Space Marine Legions created by the Emperor during the First Founding. They played a significant role in the Horus Heresy, fighting against the traitor legions and helping to turn the tide of the war.
