The Rise of the Tau Empire
Over a thousand years, the Tau empire experienced an unparalleled period of scientific discovery and philosophical advancement. This rapid growth was fueled by a series of expansion phases, where nearby worlds were colonized, conquered, or peacefully persuaded to join the Greater Good.
Expansion and Colonization
The Tau empire expanded its borders through a series of military campaigns, incorporating worlds and star systems belonging to the Kroot, Vespid, and Nicassar. The Demiurg, a prospect of the Leagues of Votann, also joined the Tau, sharing their secrets of Ion technology. Today, the empire comprises over twenty fully developed septs and around one hundred settled worlds.
Encountering Alien Species
When encountering new alien species, the Ethereals direct each caste to perform a designated role to bring them into the Empire’s fold. The Air Caste scans the world, while the Water Caste sends ambassadors to make trade deals and offer advanced technologies. If these efforts fail, the Fire Caste forcibly absorbs the world into the Tau Empire.
Conflict with Humanity
The Tau made first contact with humanity shortly after the Second Sphere of Expansion. Initially, human colonies were peacefully assimilated or forcibly subdued. However, it soon became clear that these worlds were part of a vast inter-stellar empire, the Imperium of Man. The Tau embarked on a subtle campaign of trade and diplomacy, but the Imperium’s response was brutal, leading to the first wars between the two empires.
The Damocles Crusade
The Damocles Crusade was the first major military conflict between the Imperium and the Tau Empire. The Imperial fleet invaded Tau space, destroying several outlying settlements, but was thwarted by the formidable numbers and high technology of the Tau and their Kroot allies. The Crusade ended in a bloody stalemate, and the Imperial fleet withdrew from Tau space.
Further Conflicts
The Tau Empire has since faced numerous challenges, including the invasion of Hive Fleet Gorgon and the Great War of Confederation against the Orks. Despite these setbacks, the Tau have continued to expand their empire, with recent conquests and secessions from the Imperium.
A New Era of Expansion
The Tau Empire is poised for further growth, with ongoing expansion phases and a strong military presence. As they continue to adapt and evolve, the Tau are likely to remain a dominant force in the galaxy for centuries to come.
