The Typhon Heavy Siege Tank: A Formidable Force on the Battlefield
Origins and Design
Named after the fearsome ‘Great Beast’ of Terran myth, the Typhon Heavy Siege Tank was developed by the Adeptus Mechanicus during the Great Crusade. Its design was influenced by the Spartan Assault Tank, with which it shares a basic hull, armor, and chassis. The Typhon’s primary purpose is to operate as a mobile gun and siege platform, equipped with a single, massive Dreadhammer Cannon.
Conceived for Siege Warfare
The Typhon was created in response to a request from Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors, who sought a vehicle capable of deploying rapidly while carrying heavy fortress-breaking firepower. As a result, the Typhon has become an invaluable asset for Space Marine armies during sieges.
A Rare and Powerful Sight
Although the Typhon fell out of use in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, some Chapters still maintain small numbers of these tanks in their arsenals. However, Masters of the Forge are often reluctant to deploy Typhons, fearing that their creation’s association with Perturabo may forever taint their machine-spirits.
The Dreadhammer Cannon
The Typhon’s main armament, the Dreadhammer Cannon, is a formidable siege engine capable of demolishing enemy fortifications. Since its introduction during the Great Crusade, the Dreadhammer has proven itself to be a valuable addition to any Space Marine army’s arsenal.
Corrupted by Chaos
Chaos Space Marine warbands have been known to employ Typhons, but these vehicles are often relics of the Great Crusade, corrupted by the power of Chaos. Despite this, the Typhon remains a powerful symbol of siege warfare, striking fear into the hearts of its enemies.
