Ultramarines Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 7)

The Rise of Roboute Guilliman

In a distant corner of the galaxy, a young infant named Roboute Guilliman was discovered on the planet Macragge. Found by a group of noblemen, the child was surrounded by a glowing aura and was taken in by Consul Konor, who adopted him as his own son. As Roboute grew, he demonstrated exceptional abilities, mastering every subject taught to him by the wisest men on Macragge.

A Military Prodigy

Roboute’s greatest talents lay in military leadership. His father, recognizing his potential, gave him command of an expeditionary force to quell the rebellious region of Illyrium. The campaign was a resounding success, earning Roboute the respect of the wildmen who had previously terrorized the civilized regions. Upon his return to the capital, however, Roboute found the city in chaos. His father’s co-Consul, Gallan, had attempted a coup, leading a faction of nobles who resented Konor’s legislation favoring the common people.

Assuming Power

With his father mortally wounded, Roboute swiftly crushed the rebellion and assumed the title of sole Consul of Macragge. He set about punishing the treachery and carrying out his father’s vision, executing Gallan and redistributing the lands and wealth to the people. With superhuman energy, Roboute reorganized Macragge’s social structure, creating a meritocracy where office and honors were given to the hardworking rather than the wealthy and influential.

The Arrival of the Emperor

As Roboute prosecuted his war against the Illyrian rebels, the Emperor of Mankind arrived on the neighboring planet of Espandor. Hearing stories of the extraordinary son of Consul Konor, the Emperor realized he had found one of the lost Primarchs. Due to an unexpected warp storm, however, his ship was thrown off course, and by the time it reached Macragge, Roboute had been ruling for almost five years.

The Great Crusade

Impressed by Macragge’s prosperity and strong military, the Emperor assigned command of the Ultramarines Legion to Guilliman. The Legion went on to conquer numerous worlds, leaving them in a state of self-sufficiency and prosperity. Guilliman restored the Legion’s morale and prestige, taking revenge on the Osirian Psybrids at the Battle of the Eurydice Terminal.

The Horus Heresy

Before Horus declared his treachery against the Emperor, he ordered the Ultramarines Legion to assemble for war in the Veridian System. Guilliman, however, was not deceived and instead ordered his Legion to assemble in the Calth System. The stage was set for the Battle of Calth, a pivotal moment in the Horus Heresy.

The Legacy of Roboute Guilliman

As the largest of all the Space Marine Legions, the Ultramarines were a testament to Guilliman’s tactical genius and leadership. Organized into Chapters, the Legion was a supremely efficient military machine, centered around Macragge. The legacy of Roboute Guilliman would endure, shaping the course of human history in the galaxy.
