Ultramarines Warhammer 40K – Part 3 (Part 3 of 7)

The Unyielding Legacy of Roboute Guilliman

In the darkest hour of the Imperium, when the traitorous forces of Chaos sought to tear the galaxy asunder, one man stood tall against the void. Roboute Guilliman, the indomitable Primarch of the Ultramarines, led his Legion with unyielding resolve, forging a legacy that would shape the destiny of humanity.

The Battle for Calth

As Guilliman’s fleets arrived at Calth, they were met with an eerie silence. The Warp storms raged, blocking all communication with the Imperium. It was then that the traitor forces of the Word Bearers Legion struck, seeking to cripple the Ultramarines and prevent them from joining the Battle of Terra. Though ultimately victorious, the battle was devastating, with nearly 120,000 Space Marines lost or rendered combat-incapable.

Imperium Secundus

In the aftermath of the Ruinstorm, Guilliman feared Terra lost and created a new contingency empire, Imperium Secundus. This fledgling empire faced its first major test in the Battle of Sotha, where the Ultramarines and their allies fought off a force of Night Lords. However, as Imperium Secundus grew, so did the tensions between Guilliman, Sanguinius, and Lion El’Jonson. A vision by Sanguinius that the Emperor was alive led to the abolition of Imperium Secundus and a perilous journey through the Ruinstorm to reach Terra.

The Great Scouring

After breaching the Ruinstorm, Guilliman gathered his forces and made haste for Terra. In his path lay a formidable defensive chain of worlds manned by the Iron Warriors. The loyalists suffered heavy losses, but maintained a steady advance. Ultimately, Guilliman arrived at Terra after Horus had been defeated, and the Traitor Legions scattered. The Ultramarines, one of the few Legions at full strength, bore the burden of holding the Imperium together against aliens and Chaos forces.

The Codex Astartes

In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, Guilliman set himself to create the Codex Astartes, defining the tactics and organization of all Space Marines. The division of the Legions into 1,000-strong Chapters was a radical change, aimed at preventing another civil war. However, this move sparked dissension among the remaining Primarchs, threatening to plunge the Imperium into another conflict.

The Duel on Eskrador

On Eskrador, Guilliman led a surprise assault on the Alpha Legion headquarters, engaging Alpharius in personal combat. Though Alpharius was believed killed, the Alpha Legion responded with ferocity, driving the Ultramarines from the planet.

The Bitter War

The Bitter War, a campaign that began during the Horus Heresy, pitted Loyalist forces against the Word Bearers defending Colchis. The war concluded with the destruction of Colchis by cyclonic torpedoes carried by the Ultramarines battle barge Octavius.

Throughout the ages, the legacy of Roboute Guilliman has endured, shaping the Imperium and guiding humanity through the darkness. His unyielding resolve and unwavering commitment to the Imperium have inspired countless generations, cementing his place as one of the greatest heroes of the Imperium.
