The Crusade of Mina’s Consecration
A massive Chaos Fleet threatened the Yolaris System, a strategic location along the Nachmund Gauntlet. In response, the Ecclesiarchy launched a crusade, dubbed the “Crusade of Mina’s Consecration,” led by Canoness Corinn Hrethnar. The crusader fleet made progress until a Warp Storm erupted, swallowing the system whole. After months of searching for a way out, the surviving navigators identified the faint light of the Astronomican, guiding them to the edge of the Vigilus System.
The Battle for Vigilus
Upon emerging from the Warp, Canoness Hrethnarr launched a vicious counterattack against Chaos forces on Vigilus. The crusaders were joined by reinforcements, including the Vageshizzari 87th Army Group and Inquisitor Erasmus Cartavolnus of the Ordo Malleus. Cartavolnus believed he had discovered the source of the disruptive effects plaguing the Nachmund gauntlet: Blackstone structures known as Noctilith Crowns.
The Quest to Destroy the Noctilith Crowns
Cartavolnus launched a search for the Crowns, eventually discovering one at the southern edge of Megaborealis. The Inquisition launched a surprise attack on the Chaos flanks, with Cartavolnus using his psychic powers to break the Noctilith Crown. During the ritual, he learned of more Crowns and their locations, splitting his forces to strike at multiple targets.
Ultimatum at Storvhal
The best of the Black Iconoclasts, alongside Cartavolnus, made for Storvhal, where they found rampaging Daemon Engines and Chaos Cultists attacking exhausted defenders. Cartavolnus established his authority over the Imperial forces and launched a mass attack towards Mount Phaestos, taking heavy losses but ultimately prevailing. The Inquisitor then enacted his ritual to seal the Crown.
Escaping the Rift
Meanwhile, at Orgalnafor, Imperial forces faced a desperate situation. Led by General D’hosar, they launched counterattacks against Chaos forces, but were eventually overwhelmed by reinforcements from space. The Imperial front collapsed, and contact was lost with General D’hosar. Brigadier General Van Telost assumed command, reorganizing defenses and preventing a total rout. The Imperials secretly evacuated their most precious assets, but panic spread, and the fleet withdrew, leaving 200,000 soldiers behind.
The Coronal War
The event would become known as the Orgalnafor Massacre. The Imperial fleet desperately sought a safe point, accidentally arriving at Vigilus due to its illuminating beacon within the Immaterium. The stage was set for a larger conflict, as the Imperium of Man struggled to maintain its grip on the galaxy amidst the ravages of war and the machinations of Chaos.
