The War for Vigilus Intensifies
As the conflict on Vigilus raged on, the Space Marines launched a daring airborne assault to rescue the besieged Knights. Led by Fane, the White Scars under Olujin Khan and a Ravenwing strikeforce under Meneraeus swooped in, supported by Imperial Navy bombers. The Ork air defenses were quickly overwhelmed, and the Space Marines closed in on the Scrap cities.
A Desperate Retreat
However, just as victory seemed within grasp, the Ravenwing force broke off from the engagement, leaving the White Scars to face the growing Ork assault alone. With no other option, Olujin Khan ordered a retreat. Unbeknownst to all except the Unforgiven, the Dark Angels had abandoned the war effort to serve their own purpose.
Calgar’s Vigilus Senate Holds Strong
Despite the setbacks, Calgar’s Vigilus Senate continued to manage the war effort effectively. The populace began to feel a sense of hope, believing they could win back the planet. Calgar’s decision to abandon Dirkden, however, was met with skepticism. The Chapter Master had deemed the situation unwinnable, and a massive withdrawal of civilians was undertaken, using the Crimson Fists as a screen to hold off Krooldakka’s Orks.
The Chaos Invasion Looms
Meanwhile, strange Vox emissions and ghostly apparitions began to appear, signaling the arrival of a new enemy: Chaos. Psykers reported that the Emperor’s Tarot was foretelling a catastrophic event, and abductions and bizarre monsters were becoming increasingly common. The Tzeentchian Chaos Cultists recognized these signs, knowing that a Chaos invasion was imminent.
Haarken Worldclaimer Announces His Arrival
Inquisitor Frenza confirmed that the comatose Imperial Psykers were speaking in the black tongue of Chaos, pronouncing the arrival of a Dark King. Haarken Worldclaimer, the Herald of the Apocalypse, announced his arrival, broadcasting his daemon-linked box network across the entire planet. He proclaimed that Vigilus now belonged to Abaddon the Despoiler, who would soon claim it in person.
The Battle Rages On
As Calgar gathered an emergency meeting of the Vigilus Senate, a massive Heldrake crashed through the Senate spire’s glass ceiling. Calgar was saved by his Victrix Guard, but the threat of Chaos loomed large. Thousand Sons Rubicae squads infiltrated the Oteck Hivesprawl’s force-field, causing havoc inside the Imperial lines. Meanwhile, a new Gellerpox Outbreak erupted, and the elites of the Hivesprawl shut themselves inside their spires, abandoning the desperate workers to their fate.
The Worst is Yet to Come
Haarken Worldclaimer claimed that he would conquer the planet in 80 days, and the worst was yet to come. Abaddon the Despoiler himself was inbound to Vigilus at the head of a massive Chaos armada. The battle for Vigilus had only just begun, and the fate of the planet hung in the balance.
