White Scars Warhammer 40K – Part 3 (Part 3 of 7)

The Unyielding White Scars

In the grim darkness of the 31st millennium, the White Scars Legion stood as a beacon of hope against the forces of Chaos. Led by the fearless Jaghatai Khan, they embarked on a perilous journey to uncover the truth behind the Horus Heresy.

A Campaign of Attrition

The White Scars had spent years battling the Orks in the Chondax System, only to be drawn into the larger conflict of the Horus Heresy. With the Alpha Legion’s treachery revealed, the Khan was urged by Rogal Dorn to return to Terra and join forces with Leman Russ. However, Horus had anticipated this move and sent the Alpha Legion to attack the Space Wolves, forcing the Khan to navigate treacherous Warp Storms to reach Terra.

Confronting the Traitors

Upon arriving at Prospero, the White Scars encountered the ghosts of slain Thousand Sons, who proved to be formidable foes. The Khan himself faced an ethereal projection of Magnus the Red, who implored him to choose a side in the war. Undeterred, the Khan shattered the shade with his sword. The White Scars then clashed with Mortarion and the Death Guard, fighting valiantly despite being outnumbered.

Internal Strife

As the White Scars navigated the treacherous landscape of the Horus Heresy, internal tensions began to simmer. Cultural differences between Terran-born and Chogorian-born members of the Legion came to a head, with some favoring loyalty to the Khan and others supporting Horus. A coup attempt led by Torghun Khan and Hasik-Noyan Khan was thwarted by the efforts of Shiban Khan, who led a boarding party onto the Swordstorm.

Survival and Sacrifice

The White Scars suffered heavy losses in the subsequent battles, with one-fifth of the Legion lost in the fighting. Despite being trapped far from Terra, the Khan refused to yield, waging a hit-and-run campaign of attrition against the traitors. The discovery of the Dark Glass artifact and the sacrifice of Chief Stormseer Targutai Yesugei allowed the Scars to open a portal into the Webway, paving the way for their eventual return to Terra.

The Battle of Terra

During the siege of the Emperor’s Palace, the White Scars fought alongside the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists, launching several hit-and-run assaults against the traitors. When the inner palace was breached, the White Scars led an attack to retake the Lions Gate spaceport, with Jaghatai engaging in personal combat with Mortarion. Though near death, the Khan banished Mortarion to the Warp, securing a crucial victory for the Imperium.

Post-Heresy

In the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the White Scars adopted the Codex Astartes and were divided into several Chapters. They were tasked with securing the area around the Maelstrom, containing outlaws, renegades, and aliens that threatened the Imperium. The White Scars went on to accumulate many victories, including fighting alongside Saint Sabbat during her crusade to liberate the Sabbat Worlds.
