Title: “The Mysteries of the Mcra Honor Device and The Challenges of the Imperium”
Part of a Series: The Unseen War – Intrigues and Conflicts in the Imperium
In the hallowed vaults of the flagship Mcra Honor, a device of unimaginable complexity lies hidden. Accessible only to the Primarch, its chamber is filled with hundreds of servo skulls, psychic blocks, and parts of a clearly alien origin. The device, when communicating with the Lord Commander of the Imperium, flawlessly impersonates the voice of the Archmagos Belisarius Cawl, although it insists that it and Cawl are entirely different entities.
Cawl, despite being deemed inferior by the device, exhibits a unique human touch. His goal? To ensure the Imperial Regent, Roboute Guilliman, is comfortable in its presence, fostering an uneasy peace between them. Despite Cawl’s existence spanning 10,000 years, the modifications to support his mind have taken a toll on his body, overshadowing most of his human traits. However, the mechanism of Cawl Inferior barely reflects the ghostly remnants of Belisarius’s emotions. In an unexpected twist, elements of biting humor occasionally emerge from this emotionless mechanism.
The device conveys information to Guilliman that is intrinsically built into its structure. Certain reactions unlock coded messages, a testament to the Archmagos’s genius and foresight in designing it. These messages are then modified by Cawl Inferior to reflect current circumstances. This enigmatic device is a complex tapestry of interconnected brains and logical mechanisms. Despite all assurances, Guilliman does not fully trust this device or its creator, suspecting it might be a true machine intelligence disguised as a non-sentient device.
Adding to the intrigue, the device is a heretical creation that violates the sacred tenets of the Adeptus Mechanicus. It is an amalgamation of Imperial and Xenos technology that also possesses psychic elements. Its very existence is a sign that Cawl needs to be monitored closely to prevent his descent into true heresy.
With the formation of the Great Rift across the Imperium, the Adeptus Mechanicus’ holdings became targets of Necron attacks. The birth of the Rift brought about an influx of Chaos energies that triggered anti-warp protocols on every Necron Forge World, awakening creations that had lain dormant for epochs. The Necron attacks on Forge World territories left even the Archmagos Belisarius Cawl puzzled. This state of uncertainty and fear led to panic among the tech priests.
The emergence of the Great Rift also reactivated an ancient Necron Warp Beacon known as the “Feros” on the world of Soa in the Ultima Segmentum. This, coupled with the threat posed by the Necrons, added to the internal turmoil within the Imperium. It wasn’t just the external enemies; the Necrons were an internal threat too, seeking deposits of the Warp-manipulating material, Blackstone.
Amidst this chaos, Cawl sought a way to close the Great Rift and dispatched his agents across the galaxy. The armies of Mars and the House Tyranis were mobilized to tackle the growing threat. Yet, even the Tech Priests who understood the gravity of the situation were hesitant to aid their Imperial allies for fear of being branded as heretics.
The birth of the Great Rift, the reactivation of the ancient Necron Warp Beacon, and the growing threat of the Necrons has set the stage for an epic conflict. The Imperium stands on the brink of a war that could change the course of its future. As the battles rage on, more and more Forge Worlds are drawn into the conflict, forced to send aid to their beleaguered brethren. The stakes have never been higher, and the outcome could shape the destiny of the Imperium.
