Blood Angels : Blood for the Golden God – Part 11

Title: Blood Angels: Chronicles of the Anator Campaign

In the annals of the mighty Blood Angels, the legend of Sanguinius looms large, an iconic figure of nobility among the Primarchs. His presence in the Emperor’s Council was unparalleled, his purity of spirit unmatched. Sanguinius, unlike his brothers, waged war not for the thrill of battle, but for a vision of a golden era of peace and prosperity for mankind. This vision was the Emperor’s vision, a dream of unity and prosperity for all. Sadly, this dream was destined to remain unfulfilled.

The star system of Anator serves as a testament to this tragic truth. A system that has been erased from all Imperial maps, its tale of conflict and conquest buried deep within the blood-soaked archives of the Blood Angels and the Great Library of Terra. The story of Anator, of an angel’s wrath and a legion’s shame, is more than just a tale of a forgotten battlefield. It is a stark reminder of the fine line that separates the old Ninth Legion from the Blood Angels.

Anator was once a thriving haven of humanity, surviving the horrors of Old Night through sacrifice and resourcefulness. Its small but effective void navy mastered the art of plunder and slavery, enabling the survival and eventual prosperity of its people. This strategy was so successful that when the first Imperial scout ships arrived, Anator was flourishing. So confident were its people that they met the Imperial emissaries with a volley of fire and thunder.

The response from the Imperium was swift and brutal. Led by Sanguinius himself, twelve companies of Blood Angels were dispatched to Anator. Arriving in a mighty formation of brute battleships, they shattered the enemy fleet with a storm of cannon fire. The marauder craft of Anator were no match for the might of the Blood Angels.

The first world to fall was Anator Extremis, a small airless orb that housed a garrison of Anator soldiers in subsurface habitats. In a merciless assault, the 19th, 67th, 171st, and 94th companies of the Blood Angels cracked the planet’s surface, shattered its defenses, and brought the iron rain of war to the enemy.

In the cold, labyrinthine tunnels of Anator Extremis, the Blood Angels encountered heavily cybernetically augmented foes, barely recognizable as human. Known to the Imperium as the Iron Bulls, these enemies wielded primitive plasma casters and grav lances, holding the Blood Angels at bay for six solar hours.

The conquest of the outer worlds of the Anator system was a brutal saga of fire and blood. The Iron Bulls resisted the Blood Angels at every turn, staging ambushes and feigned retreats, and imposing a high cost on the Ninth Legion for each world conquered. Amid the asteroid fortresses of the system’s outer belt, the Iron Bulls fought tooth and nail, sacrificing themselves to impede the advance of the Blood Angels.

The gateway to the inner system, Anator Median, was the site of a sprawling battle across an acidic sea and rocky archipelagos. Riding massive multi-legged ortic frames into battle, the Iron Bulls managed to stall the advance of nine Blood Angels companies. The courage of their foes earned the grudging admiration of the Ninth Legion, who took pride in the victories won against them. Sanguinius himself…
