Ogryns: Guardians or Monsters? – Part 7

Title: The Nightmarish Plague Ogin: Warhammer 40,000’s Abhuman Beast of Decay

Welcome back, fellow explorers of Warhammer 40,000’s endless lore! As we continue our multi-part series, we dive into the terrifying depths of the Plague Ogin, the abhuman creatures bred on the horrific battlegrounds of V Prime.

Let’s journey back to the infamous Siege of V. Here, the mysterious heretic Astartes Warband, known as the Tainted, worked their darkest sorceries on the already distorted chem-augmented Ogin slave stock. A faction devoted to Nurgle, the Mortifier of Flesh, the Tainted created the first Plague Ogin, a beast almost impossible to kill, and whose merest touch brings a gruesome demise.

But the tale doesn’t end there. Deep within the Eye of Terror, the Tainted continued to refine their Plague Ogin creation. These vile creatures are now traded among the Servants of Nurgle, the Lord of Decay, in return for fresh subjects for their twisted craft.

Highlighting some special Ogin detachments, let’s turn our attention to the 51st Human Penal Suppression Detachment. Composed of Ogins deemed unfit for frontline duty due to injury or limited intellect, these abhumans are put to work aboard the prison barge Oath of Judgment as wardens. Intimidating the prisoners and too naive to be tricked, these Ogins have proven to be quite effective.

The 81st Anoat Regiment, known as the Immovables, are an exemplar of Ogin tenacity. They hold their position, no matter the punishment. However, this stubbornness can also be their weakness. Without new orders, they stand unyielding, even if an outflanking force rounds their shield wall.

Jumping to the Imperial Guard regiments of Cadia, we find the 1,636 Ironarm Bulwark Squad. Having served alongside the Cadan 818th Shock Troops for over a decade, this squad relies on its mighty slab shields and mass to disrupt enemy formations or hold them at bay.

And who can forget the Cro Ogin Ogila? Hailing from the high gravity steppe world of Cro, these brutal Ogins have developed a warlike culture that has been supplying frontline troops for the Armageddon sector for centuries. Unleashed in combat, these Ogins become an almost unstoppable force. Their sheer brute force can tear apart lightly armored vehicles and even bring down small buildings with little effort.

This fascinating dive into the world of Ogins and their various roles in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is just a sliver of the rich, expansive lore. Join us next time as we continue to unravel the intricate tapestry that is the Warhammer universe.
