Roboute Guilliman – Part 6

The Grand Project: Belisarius Cole and the Awakening Primarch

In our multi-part series, we delve deeper into the intriguing saga of Warhammer 40,000, focusing on the grand project spearheaded by none other than the powerful techno-genius, Belisarius Cole.

Cole, a figure whose genius is revered throughout the galaxy, embarked on a mission of cosmic proportions – the creation of the Primaris. His journey through the cosmos was littered with countless tasks and challenges. His relentless pursuit of the necessary resources for his grand project took him to the farthest corners of the galaxy, discarding any preconceptions that might hinder his progression.

The Cadian system marked a significant point in his expedition. Here, while engrossed in the study of the enigmatic Necron pylons, Cole formed an unlikely alliance with Trazyn the Infinite. Together, they dared to activate the ancient Xenos technology—a move that would have far-reaching consequences.

Their time in the Cadian system ended in catastrophe as Abbadon destroyed Cadia and the Necron pylons, causing a tremendous rift to erupt from the western to eastern edge of the Imperium. The ensuing chaos hurled the galaxy into an impenetrable warp storm, slicing it in half.

In the midst of this cosmic turmoil, Cole found unlikely allies in the Eldar, who transported the survivors through the web to Ultramar. The Eldar were, at the time, undergoing a massive upheaval. The Ynnead—the Eldar god of the dead—had awakened, and the Ynnari who accompanied the archmagos were devout followers of this new deity.

Among the survivors was Yvraine, a key figure in the triumvirate of the god of the dead. Cole found himself face-to-face with Kalgar, the acting lord of the planet, and divulged a crucial piece of information. Roboute Gilliman had tasked him with finding a way to revive him.

The Ultramarines, understandably, found this revelation suspicious. It was only when the Legion’s chief bibliarch, Tigurius, reported visions prophesying Guilliman’s rebirth that they allowed the arrivals to stay.

As the forces of Chaos attacked Macragge from all sides, Belisarius set about his task. The Black Legion focused their efforts on the Fortress of Hera, the location of Guilliman’s sacred stasis pod. In a dramatic turn of events, Yvraine invoked the help of her patron Ynnead. The combination of Ynnead’s power over life and death and the secret technology of Belisarius Cole released Roboute Gilliman from a 10,000 years long slumber.

The primarch, fully healed, returned to battle immediately. His immense power swept away a sizable force of attackers, and the Ultramarines, inspired by the return of their father, finally drove the forces of Chaos from the planet.

Roboute Gilliman’s ascension to the throne was marked by an inspiring speech, confirming his abilities as an orator. Gilliman declared his intentions to reclaim the separated worlds that were once in the realm of Ultramar.

However, a gift from Fulgrim, the brother he had once defeated—a golden laurel wreath—proved to be a bitter reminder of his past. He cast aside the wreath, a symbol of Chaos, reaffirming his invulnerability to its temptations.

Seven months later, the system was cleansed of the foulness of chaos, and the friendly Xenos left Makkrag with the Primarch’s respectful blessing. Yet, the world Gilliman had given his life for had transformed into a civilization driven by fear, ignorance, and superstition. The Imperium he once knew was now a mad religious cult that worshipped his father as a god and exterminated anyone who dared to think otherwise.

Despite the haunting voice of his fallen brother Fulgrim, Gilliman steadfastly refused to give in to despair. The saga of the awakened primarch and his struggle to reclaim his realm continues to inspire and captivate, underscoring the epic narrative of Warhammer 40,000.
