The Battle of Cadia: Beginning of the 13th Black Crusade – Part 9

Title: Shattering Hope: The Violators’ Siege and the Last Stand of St. Josman’s Hope

Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts, to the next installment of our deep dive into the tumultuous history of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Today, we’ll be focusing on the horrifying saga of the Violators War Band and the dreadful events on the prison world of St. Josman’s Hope.

The Violators, a devoted band of hedonistic heretics in service to Slaanesh, the Prince of Pleasure, were an enigma to many within the Imperial High Command. These pleasure-seekers were known for their sadistic brutality and close-quarters combat. Their reputation would unravel in a terror-filled briefing with Lord Castellan Creed and a representative of the Inquisition. The gruesome details of the Violators’ activities would send shockwaves that would leave even the most hardened veterans aghast.

Their arrival at the sprawling prison world of St. Josman’s Hope ignited a frenzy of violence. Inmates, initially seeing these newcomers as liberators, were swiftly – and horrifyingly – disabused of this notion. The ensuing carnage and chaos were so grotesque that many guards chose self-inflicted death over capture by the frenzied inmates or the Violators themselves.

The prison world’s defenses were strained to breaking point. Despite the Commissariat’s best efforts to suppress the news of the unfolding atrocities, word spread like wildfire through the Cardan system. The horrifying reality was unavoidable – St. Josman’s Hope was spiraling into utter chaos.

In a move that shocked many, Lord Castellan issued an unthinkable order: St. Josman’s Hope was to be subjected to exterminatus – total obliteration. But there lay the problem; the necessary resources for this action were lacking. Despite desperate proposals from the Imperial Navy and the Adeptus Mechanicus, the planet’s destruction required a team on the ground.

Enter Strike Force Herald, an unlikely mix of aares from the Space Wolves, Howling Griffins, Subjugators, and Iron Knights chapters; three squads from different Imperial Guard regiments; a death cult assassin; five tech-priests; additional support personnel, and two unnamed inquisitors. They had a daunting task – overloading the prison complex’s generator grid to tear the planet apart.

Before their mission could commence, an evacuation order was issued. Imperial forces executed a fighting withdrawal of epic proportions, displaying unprecedented heroism in desperate rear-guard actions. Regiments laid down their lives so that entire armies could escape. The plan, against all odds, was a success – but at a devastating cost. The heroic Strike Force Herald didn’t survive to tell the tale of their heroics.

In the aftermath of the destruction of St. Josman’s Hope, the Imperial High Command grappled with the logistical nightmare, as warp storms rendered astropath communications erratic. Amidst the chaos, reports trickled in of an Orc menace in the Scaris sector, adding to the chaos.

Back on Cadia, Lord Castellan Creed, leading his Cadian 8th Regiment, known as the Lord Castellan’s own, was hunting down Volani catfacts who had escaped the chaos of the Tyro fields. After an intense battle at Kasar Vasan, Creed was forced to regroup his forces to face the Black Legion on more favorable terms.

And thus, the saga continues. Stay tuned for more tales from the grim, dark universe of Warhammer 40,000.
