In the dark and unforgiving universe of Warhammer 40,000, legends and myths abound. One such tale, shrouded in mystery and contradiction, is that of ARA, the fallen Phoenix, the Dark Father of the Incubi. A formidable figure whose influence stretched across the constructed worlds and ARA’s Shrine, his story is as enigmatic as it is fascinating.
Ara’s legend, as with many before him, was forged in the crucible of conflict. Faced with the ultimate test of their abilities, the elves braved their fears and defeated ARA’s defiled mortal shell. His spirit, untainted and powerful, was then absorbed by the elves, preserving his teachings for eternity.
The heart of ARA’s legend, however, remains unknown – a mystery wrapped in the enigma of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. While both sides acknowledge his epic battle against chaos and his inability to withstand it, they diverge when it comes to the aftermath. Various legends circulate about the Dark Father, most riddled with falsehoods and contradictions. Despite long being believed dead, many continued to assert his existence. Some even claimed that the renowned duari swordsman, Draa, was ARA’s embodiment.
Adding another layer of intrigue to ARA’s tale was his encounter with Karandras, the bravest and most cunning member of his former Shrine of the Striking Scorpions. The 41st Millennium saw a showdown between the teacher and the disciple amid the cursed ruins of Xandros. This epic battle lasted a staggering 17 days, with both warriors fighting breathlessly until Karandras vanished mysteriously, driving ARA into a frenzied rage.
ARA’s wrath, however, brought upon him a greater curse and ignited a swift conflict across several artificial worlds, resulting in his suspected death at the hands of once loyal Aspect Warriors. The fate of the Fallen Phoenix hence remains a mystery, lost in the sands of time.
Not all Warhammer 40,000 lore is shrouded in darkness and mystery. The Swooping Hawks, for instance, are a testament to the Eldar’s belief in guilt and retribution. These Aspect Warriors, named after the hawks of Eldar mythology, mimic their feathered namesakes in many ways. Their armor, made from light, porous material, and wings, fashioned with small gravitational inserts, allow them to rise above the battlefield with unmatched grace and agility.
In flight, the Swooping Hawks evoke the image of a hummingbird, their wings fluttering at such speed that they blur into a smear of color. These warriors aren’t mere symbols of guilt; they bring death to their enemies. With their ability to soar upwards in an instant, descend upon foes with terrifying velocity, and armed with deadly Alas Blasters and a grenade launcher pack, they leave destruction in their wake.
The Swooping Hawks’ attacks are integral to the Asuwan offensive. Their ability to descend from the skies and disrupt planned counterattacks or destroy vulnerable combat formations makes them invaluable on the battlefield. Led by the Exarchs, the greatest followers of Bahar, these warriors are revered by the Eldar, their appearance considered a favorable omen.
Notable among the Swooping Hawks are the Ashen Sky Shrine and the Shimmering Horizon Shrine. The Ashen Sky, with their enhanced optics and dark armor, symbolize the tortured skies in which they do battle. On the other hand, the Swooping Hawks of the Shimmering Horizon are a beacon of hope, hinting at a return to a dominant position after a long period of dwelling in darkness.
Stay tuned for the next part of this multi-part series as we continue to delve into the fascinating lore of Warhammer 40,000. From the mysterious ARA to the awe-inspiring Swooping Hawks, there’s always more to discover in this rich and intricate universe.
