Welcome back to another exciting chapter in our multi-part series diving deep into the rich and intricate lore of Warhammer 40,000.
Today, we’re recounting the epic battle that took place on the naval world of Vigil Atum. In an unprecedented move, the Dark Angels and the Space Wolves, two chapters notorious for their longstanding feud, decided to set their differences aside. It was a rare sight to behold; Supreme Grandmaster Azrael and the Great Wolf Logan Grimler, reaching a mutual, albeit temporary, understanding. Their unity sent a clear message to the arch enemy – their combined strength was a force to be reckoned with.
The details of this unlikely alliance were shrouded in mystery, known only to the members of the two chapters. Fighting side by side, they defended Casao Con Cardia from a significant force of Chaos mutants. The Dark Angels and Space Wolves launched a devastating attack on the rear of the mutant horde, cutting them down mercilessly. They fought with a competitive spirit, each chapter’s aares attempting to outdo the other in combat prowess.
However, the camaraderie was short-lived. As the last mutants fell, the friendly banter between the two chapters soured into less amicable insults. Despite their victory, the Sons of Lion and the Sons of Russ parted ways, their ancient rivalry resurfacing.
Meanwhile, the renowned Imperial Fists Chapter also arrived at Cadian Gate. Five Companies engaged the forces of the arch enemy in Cardia. Following a space engagement that left the Chaos War Fleet severely damaged, three companies performed a combat drop on Cardia itself, while the remaining two reinforced defenses in surrounding sectors.
The Imperial Fists, especially the second company, distinguished themselves with exceptional bravery, overcoming a horde of nearly 10,000 heretical fanatics from the notorious Stigmas Covenant. Despite succumbing to severe wounds, Captain Tylo heroically held a breach in the fortifications, repelling hundreds of mutants. His body was later placed in stasis, with the chapter’s tech marines intending to inter his remains within a dreadnought, allowing the warrior to continue his fight against the forces of darkness even after his mortal demise.
As the skies above the war zones blazed with falling orbital ordinance, the ground trembled under the mighty tread of battle titans. Imperial forces prayed that no servant of the Emperor would falter, for to do so would mean surrendering Humanity to eternal damnation and ruin.
The last stage of the 13th Black Crusade raged across the Cadian, Agripinaa, Bellis Corona, Scaris, and Chin’cha sectors of the Segmentum Obscurus. On Cadia, the Emperor’s strongholds fell one by one, the lines buckling under the relentless onslaught of countless enemy troops.
Leading the Imperial forces, Lord Castellan Creed engaged in a mobile defense, marshalling the Astra Militarum regiments to intercept and cut off the enemy. However, the overwhelming numbers of the arch enemy’s forces rendered this strategy untenable, forcing the Cadian defenders to retreat to Kaza Parox.
As an entire traitor titan legion marched across the horizon, framed against a blazing sky and with mutant hordes swarming under their feet, the Cadian 8th Regiment stood arrayed in companies across Cag’s parade ground. Lord Castellan Creed could only hope that his soldiers, each with honor writ large upon their faces, would not falter in their duty to the Emperor.
