Welcome, fellow lore enthusiasts, to another dive into the mysterious and complex universe of Warhammer 40,000. Today, we’re going to explore the enigmatic figure of Alarus, the Primarch of the Alpha Legion, and his unexpected reunion with his twin, Omegon. This is part of a multi-part series, so buckle up as we delve into the intricacies of their relationship and their unique roles in the Great Crusade.
In the labyrinthine depths of Warhammer 40,000 lore, there’s a fair share of intrigue and surprise, and Alarus exemplifies this perfectly. His clandestine maneuvers even outwitted the Crimson King himself on Kulus, a testament to his exceptional skill in subterfuge. He wasn’t present at the Emperor’s meeting with Angran and was rather relieved about it. Instead, he was developing his own Legion, and the warriors, in their loyalty to their Primarch, went under the knife to bear his semblance.
It wasn’t mandatory, but seven out of ten Aares took the plunge. These Space Marines understood their role in the Great Crusade and embraced secret operations with gusto, mirroring Alarus’s penchant for intrigue and deception. During the Rangdan Xenocides, Alarus came to aid the Dark Angels led by Lion L Johnson. However, Alarus’s existence was still under wraps, so he introduced himself as a regular captain, offering his assistance.
Despite the Dark Angels and Lion L Johnson’s suspicious nature, Alarus managed to shift his brother’s attention towards a potential Warmaster appointment, offering his support on behalf of the 20th Legion. This episode was a test for Alarus, a trial to see if he could deceive one of the galaxy’s most perceptive warriors. The Primarch of the 20th Legion, a gifted liar, succeeded, and the Lion agreed to cooperate.
The theater of their cooperation was the planet Bavor, where they battled the sloth-like xenos mutants, known for cannibalism and corpse manipulation. These foes posed a genuine threat, and even Alarus struggled to defeat them. In a moment of dire confrontation, Alarus’s armor was partially destroyed, his warriors fell, and he was wounded. Then, an unexpected ally appeared.
The warrior, removing his helmet, introduced himself as Omegon, and Alarus was stunned. He was looking at his own reflection, a reflection he had been missing all his life. Omegon, raised on an unnamed planet far from Terra, had a similar sense of incompleteness.
Omegon’s past was mired in adversity. Before he turned 10, his planet was invaded by sloths. Interestingly, they kept him alive, tortured him, and trained him as a living weapon. How Omegon escaped this predicament is a mystery. There’s a theory that the Emperor personally rescued him, but it’s more likely he grew up and gained enough power to annihilate his tormentors.
Back on his home planet, Omegon discovered a weapon known as the Pale Spear, a product of ancient technologies that could penetrate any armor and inflict terrible wounds. It’s theorized that the way to distinguish between the twins was through their armors, with Omegon preferring darker armor, while Alarus was almost indistinguishable from his legionnaires.
Upon reuniting, both twins felt a sense of completion. Alarus, eager to share, recounted all he knew about the other brothers, their Legions, and the Imperium. After years of isolation and secrecy, the 20th Primarch finally had a confidant.
Stay tuned for the next part of this series as we continue to unravel the enigmatic tale of Alarus and Omegon in the intricate universe of Warhammer 40,000.
