Chaos Knights: When Sacred Machines Become Terrifying Beasts – Part 8

In the grim darkness of the far future, where war is a constant state of being and the universe is a battlefield, there exists a colossal war machine unlike any other: the Knights Rampager. This is not just any ordinary war engine. In fact, it would be a grave mistake to think of it as a machine at all.

The Knights Rampager are the epitome of battle-hardened fury and unyielding aggression. They are more akin to frenzied demons than mere war machines, their carapace warping and twisting, their weapon limbs overworking in ways that defy the realms of rational possibility. Their adamantium sinews and hyper-stressed servos scream in unison as they stab, bludgeon, and wreak havoc with Reaper chainswords and Thunderstrike gauntlets.

When the Knights Rampager hit enemy lines, it is a sight to behold. Their terrifying speed and ferocity rain down punishing blows that shatter the guard of even the most skilled war engine pilots. They stave in the helms and chests of loyalist Knights, tearing the heads from elegant Aeldari Wraithknights. These rampaging behemoths stab and hack with their screaming chainswords, lopping limbs off Tyranid bio-horrors before eviscerating them in gory sprays.

One of the more horrifying sights on the battlefield is the Knights Rampager hoisting war engines aloft in the grip of their Thunderstrike gauntlets, sawing them in two with their whirling blades. They scoop up infantry and hurl them screaming through the air, splattering them bloodily against their own bastions. They pummel victims into the ground, tearing chunks from them and bloodily devouring them with the gnashing maws of their mutated faceplates.

Throughout their berserk onslaught, the Knights Rampager are seemingly impervious to incoming fire. Their ion shields swivel and tilt, but this is merely the Fallen Nobles within attempting some modicum of self-preservation while they let their steeds maraud at will.

These Knights fight with inexhaustible ferocity until they are too damaged to take another stride. They often take catastrophic casualties, and it is rare for a single such war engine to leave a war zone under its own power. Many Fallen Houses count on this fact. It is far easier to haul wrecked Knights Rampager from the battlefield and effect repairs than to entrap them again by force.

The Knights Despoiler, on the other hand, epitomize all that it means to be a Chaos Knight. Their Fallen Nobles vehemently repudiate honor and valor, their burning hatred a result of long exposure to their corrupted Thrones Mechanicum and decades of bloody warfare.

In silhouette, all but the most heavily mutated Knights Despoiler remain similar to the Imperial Knights they once were. However, their weapons vary wildly. Gone are the traditional patterns of armaments that have served the loyalist houses for millennia. Instead, every Knight Despoiler is armed however its pilot chooses or with whatever agglomeration of weaponry could be scavenged to outfit the war engine.

The Knights Tyrant are another breed altogether. So massive are they that they loom over even the other Chaos Knights, carrying the heaviest weapon systems available to the Fallen Houses. They stride into battle with a delight in unleashing their armaments to their full devastating potential. They often place themselves deliberately in harm’s way, shrugging off the enemy’s most deadly weaponry with insulting ease in order to gain the perfect firing point.

These Fallen Nobles tend towards towering arrogance and delusions of invincibility. They often become fused with their steeds, a result of the spiritual bleed between themselves and the tainted machine spirits of the Knight suits they pilot.

Stay tuned for more terrifying tales of mayhem and destruction in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, where the only certainty is war and the laughter of thirsting gods.
