Corruption and Combat: Inside the Ranks of Nurgle’s Plague Marines
Welcome back to our multi-part exploration into the grim darkness of Warhammer 40,000! Today, we venture deep into the heart of decay and corruption, with a focus on the fetid warriors of Nurgle, the Plague Marines.
Infused with the agonising afflictions of Nurgle's foul Corruption, the Plague Marines are the epitome of pestilence and death. Despite their bodies being wrought with disease and their power armour corroded with rust, these warriors have become immune to the horrendous pain inflicted by the warp fox of Grandfather Nurgle.
Plague Marines exude a continuous stream of slime, their bodies emitting an omnipresent stench of rot. Yet, against all odds, these abhorrent figures remain fearsome and proficient combatants. Their prowess lies not just in their insensitivity to pain, but also in their unwavering loyalty to the Death Guard Traitor Legion and their Primarch Mortarion.
Joining the Plague Marines is a privilege few achieve. Those who aspire to become part of this elite cadre of pestilence must prove their loyalty and dedication. The ultimate reward? The corrupting gift of Nurgle's Rot, a vile transformation that morphs the ordinary into the grotesque.
**The Blight Mages and the Black Legion**
Outside of the Death Guard, a select few Chaos Sorcerers dedicated to Nurgle, known as Blight Mages, retain the knowledge to create Plague Marines. These Mages, often recruited by the infamous Abaddon the Despoiler of the Black Legion, are entrusted with spreading Nurgle's pestilent blessings.
Their dark arts bolster the ranks of Abaddon's forces, propelling the cause of Chaos Undivided. And what of the Plague Marines? They live to distribute Nurgle's Gifts of disease and Decay, piloting the plague fleets that periodically burst forth from the Eye of Terror.
**The Tragic Tale of the Rubric Marines**
Shifting our focus to the spectral remnants of the Thousand Sons Legion, we encounter the Rubric Marines. Trapped within their ancient power armor, these tragic figures are the result of a powerful spell gone awry.
The Rubric of Ahriman, cast by the Chaos Sorcerer Ahriman, aimed to save his battle brothers from the relentless mutations of the warp. Instead, it bound the souls of the Thousand Sons within their armor, reducing their physical forms to dust. Now, these soulless automatons, trapped within their ornate suits, serve as silent, relentless guardians on the battlefield.
**The Savage World Eaters**
Our journey through the lore of Warhammer 40,000 wouldn't be complete without a glimpse into the blood-soaked origins of the Khornate Berserkers. These Chaos Space Marines are driven by an insatiable thirst for bloodshed, a trait instilled by their ruthless Primarch Angron.
Angron, commanding the 12th Space Marine Legion, implemented the brutal practice of cortical implantation. These implants, known as the Butcher's Nails, heightened aggression and suppressed pain, creating a legion of savage warriors that revel in the carnage of battle.
So, there you have it - a dive into the grotesque world of the Plague Marines, the tragic tale of the Rubric Marines, and the savage origins of the Khornate Berserkers. Stay tuned for more in-depth exploration into the grim universe of Warhammer 40,000!
