Lorgar Aurelian – Architect of the Horus Heresy – Part 10

Title: “Cadia’s Shadow: The Fall of Lorgar and the Birth of Chaos”

In the grim darkness of the far future, where there is only war, the Imperium of Man stands as a bastion against the ceaseless tides of Chaos. Yet, even the most stalwart of defenders can falter, and the tale of Lorgar, Primarch of the Word Bearers, is a stark testament to this.

Our journey takes us to Cadia, a world perilously close to the Eye of Terror, where our tale of treachery and transformation unfolds. As the Word Bearers descended upon Cadia’s surface, they were met not by fear or surprise but an eerie calm. The locals, rag-clothed savages with striking purple eyes, seemed unperturbed by the arrival of these armored giants.

In the midst of this peculiar spectacle, Lorgar found his attention drawn to a young woman who introduced herself as Ingal. She was a priestess, the leader of the savages, and a disciple of the chaos cult that thrived upon Cadia. She addressed Lorgar by name, her words resonating with a truth he had been seeking.

Intrigued and captivated, Lorgar agreed to partake in a ritual led by Ingal, a ritual that demanded human sacrifices. The last to fall was a Custodian, an embodiment of the Emperor’s will, who accused Lorgar of betrayal. The ritual’s climax saw Ingal transform into a monstrous embodiment of a Chaos demon, demanding further sacrifice: the souls of Lorgar’s sons.

Lorgar, entranced by the promise of truth, agreed to the demon’s demand. The inhabitants of Cadia were blamed for the Custodians’ deaths, and the once-prospective colony was destroyed. A ship, carrying the ascended Ingal, disappeared into the Eye of Terror, only to return moments later with a handful of surviving Space Marines.

These survivors were changed, their bodies now housing demons from the Warp. They became the first Gal Vorbak, warriors of increased strength and instinct, a revelation that shook Lorgar to his core. These ‘gods’ did not seek to exterminate humanity, but to coexist with them.

Emboldened by this revelation, Lorgar set forth on a pilgrimage, leaving his Legion behind. The truth he sought would always be distorted by the Warp, but it did not deter him. His sons, left behind, were plagued by nightmares of their father’s deeds.

The ascended Ingal guided Lorgar to the Eldar world of Shria, a planet devastated by the birth of Slaanesh. Here, Lorgar faced and defeated the Avatar of the Eldar War God, Cain. This event, orchestrated by Ingal, was meant to show Lorgar that even a god can die.

Ingal’s final act was to show Lorgar a vision of the Imperial Palace in turmoil, a vision that may not entirely come to pass. However, the implications of these visions were enough to convince Lorgar. He pondered why the gods had chosen him, a question that would forever echo in the annals of Warhammer 40,000 lore.

And so, in the shadow of Cadia and the Eye of Terror, the seeds of Chaos were sown. The fall of Lorgar is a chilling reminder of the insidious nature of the Warp, a lesson that resonates throughout the galaxy, serving as a grim warning to all who stand against Chaos.

Stay tuned for more tales from the grim darkness of the far future, where there is only war…
