Lorgar Aurelian – Architect of the Horus Heresy – Part 6

In the vast, grim universe of Warhammer 40,000, there exist many tales of valor, treachery, and outright heroism. Yet, there’s one narrative that continues to fascinate aficionados of the lore, a tale of a unique pariah within the Emperor’s greatest creations. Welcome back to our multi-part series, my fellow lore enthusiasts. Today, we delve into the enigmatic existence of Aelan, the Golden Primarch.

From the moment of his birth, Aelan was a conundrum wrapped in a riddle. He was born with the same remarkable abilities as his Primarch brethren, yet he was met with disdain, mockery, and silent contempt from his siblings. A warrior at heart, Aelan’s thirst for battle was often overshadowed by an unusual ability to suppress his rage, a trait that set him apart from his kin.

Unlike his battle-hungry brethren, Aelan was a creature of emotion. He did not shy away from expressing his feelings, reacting vividly to events around him. This, combined with his favoring of psychic abilities over physical weapons as the Great Crusade progressed, made him a distinct yet misunderstood figure.

In his uniqueness, Aelan found a kindred spirit in Magnus the Red, the only brother who did not disdain him. Despite their contrasting views on the nature of the Emperor, the two were united by a shared passion for learning. Magnus, who had visited Aelan’s homeworld of Cus, was perhaps the only Primarch to successfully breach the golden Primarch’s enigmatic shell.

Aelan’s arsenal was as distinctive as his personality, the centerpiece being the Illuminarum. A gift from Ferrus Manus after a joint campaign with the Iron Hands Legion, the Illuminarum was a power cus as tall as a Space Marine. Though the gift was given out of obligation rather than friendship, it served as a symbol of Aelan’s role within his Legion, a beacon of spiritual mentorship for his sons.

Aelan was a mirror image of the Emperor, not just physically, but also in the way he expressed emotions. His soft, persuasive voice and modest armor spoke volumes of his purity of thought and righteousness. Yet, the most splendid possession he ever had remained the Illuminarum, a testament to his unique place within the Emperor’s demigods.

Despite his remarkable qualities, Aelan was known for his rapid mood swings and a tendency to take offense easily. His childlike sensitivity often alienated his indifferent brothers, yet it did not deter him from his mission. He was a beacon of faith, converting planet after planet to the ruler of humanity with his inspiring speeches.

Aelan’s fervor for the Emperor, however, had a dark side. Rumors of mysterious rituals and abnormal fervor in battle began to circulate among the soldiers of the Imperial Army. These rumors, whispers of a Legion succumbing to superstitious customs, began to cast a shadow over Aelan and his Word Bearers.

As we delve deeper into Aelan’s tale, we find a universe teetering on the brink of chaos and a unique Primarch who might just be the key to salvation or damnation. Stay tuned for our next post as we uncover more tales from the grim expanse of Warhammer 40,000.
