Raven Guard and Their Dark Legacy – Part 10

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. However, in the heart of the enemy army, there shines a beacon of hope, a devastating force that signals the end for many a foe. That beacon, dear reader, is the Primaris Inceptors, the tip of the spear, the storm before the silence. When their punitive fire supports an offensive, few can withstand the onslaught.

In this part of our multi-part series, we delve into the depths of the Raven Guard’s 9th and 10th companies, the Unseen and the Durge Singers, revealing their traditions, strategies, and the challenges they face.

The Unseen, known for their swift and ferocious combat style, prefer to use jump packs for rapid deployment. Often launching from the assault bays of the mighty Thunderhawk gunships, their arrival is marked by a monstrous, devilish choir that echoes the hunting cries of the elusive kavar birds. However, this method, while thematically impressive, has led to the company suffering the highest casualty rates within the chapter. Critics question their tactics, but the Unseen retort: dead eyes see little, and lifeless tongues offer no warnings.

Enter the Durge Singers, the 9th company, named in honor of the mystics of K’VAR and Deliverance. They are the reserve fire support for the Raven Guard and where most recruits land post their grueling training with the 10th. This company is home to the Dreadnoughts, ancient heroes of the Raven Guard who, despite being interred within walking tanks, offer wisdom and strategic experience to their living brethren.

The Dreadnoughts, respected and revered, sometimes serve as Battlefield officers, leading formations known as the Chorus. Comprising of Dreadnoughts, Storm Raven Gunships, and fire support squads, the Chorus delivers swift and punishing firepower, often against overwhelming odds. The Durge Singers have held their ground against formidable enemies, like during the siege of Canell where they protected the tech vaults from desecration by xenos forces.

At the helm of the 9th company is Shadow Captain Vos Delon, a restrained traditionalist known for his resistance towards the increasing presence of Primaris Marines. Despite being a deviation from the norm, Delon’s rigorous standards have ensured that any Primaris Marines leaving his company are unmatched in skill and resolve.

Finally, we journey to the heart of the Raven Guard, the 10th company, the crucible where initiates are trained and scrutinized. Here, recruits learn the art of stealth, shaping them into true sons of Corax. But the path is not easy. With the chapter’s gene-seed tarnished in past millennia, neophytes undergo countless trials before they are granted the gift of the gene-seed, marking them as carriers of the chapter’s future.

In the next installment of our series, we will delve deeper into the lore of the Raven Guard, exploring more about their traditions, victories, and the sacrifices they make in the name of the Emperor. So, stay tuned, for in the grim darkness of the far future, there is always more to learn.
