Title: Tales From the Segmentum Obscurus: The Calum Gate
As the Age of Darkness loomed ominously, the galaxy was caught in the vice of relentless conflict. This merciless inferno raged across the cosmos, consuming worlds and armies, reducing them to nothing but ash. Few survivors remained to recount the sacrifices made and the atrocities committed amidst this maelstrom of destruction.
Each of the legions, in defiance of this cosmic apocalypse, marshaled their forces, wielding units steeped in the art of unconventional warfare. Decency was discarded, replaced by ruthless tactics and the relentless pursuit of victory, as if it were the last vestige of hope in this bleak universe.
However, the fires of war were indiscriminate, consuming not just the stars but many of these formidable formations. In the grim aftermath of the Horus Heresy, their legacies were lost, their tales resigned to the annals of history. Yet fragments of their stories survive in scattered records, grim testament to the harrowing trials endured by both the Emperor’s traitorous sons and the brave heroes who confronted them.
One such tale is that of the Calum Gate. Nestled in the heart of the Calium Segmentum Obscura system, this technological marvel stood as a testament to the ingenuity of a forgotten era. Its origins, shrouded in the murky depths of ages long past, predated even the Emperor’s Ascension to his celestial throne.
The Calum Gate was no ordinary structure. It was a labyrinthine network of interconnected stations, linked by titanic cables spanning distances measured in kilometers. Once awakened, the gate wielded the power to propel entire armadas across the tumultuous seas of immaterium, crossing vast cosmic distances in weeks, a feat that would otherwise have taken many standard years.
However, the tempest of the Horus Heresy swept across the galaxy, devastating all in its path, and the Calum Gate was not spared. Through the grim hand of Perturabo, the indomitable Primarch of the Iron Warriors Legion, the Calum Gate was turned into a charred tomb, a monument to the devastation wrought by betrayal and ambition.
In the waning days of the fateful year 010 M31, the 5th Legion of the White Scars, loyal sons of Primarch Jagatai Khan, found themselves ensnared in the twisted web of the Segmentum Obscurus. Besieged by the relentless advance of their traitorous brethren, Khan devised a desperate strategy to evade their clutches. His plan? A ruse to mislead the traitors and distract them from the true path of their escape.
Standing in their way was Lord Commander Eidolon of the Emperor’s Children. In the absence of his Primarch, Eidolon seized the mantle of leadership, his thirst for recognition and glory driving him to relentlessly pursue the White Scars. Yet unbeknownst to Eidolon, Khan was orchestrating a deception, and the traitorous Lord Commander found himself chasing shadows instead of his prized trophy.
As the White Scars made their daring escape, a contingent of the Emperor’s Children descended upon the Calum Gate, eager to salvage what remained of the relic and erect defenses against any hope of escape for the loyalists. Jagatai Khan, sensing an opportunity, dispatched units forged from the crucible of past defeats. Warriors thirsting for revenge led the charge, spearheaded by the Lance of Heaven, a Dictators-class Battleship and one of the 5th Legion’s oldest ships.
In a breathtaking display of speed and strategy, the White Scars’ fleet charged towards its target, leaving the enemy forces chasing shadows. The Emperor’s Children warships that met the attackers were formidable, but even they could not withstand the loyalist onslaught.
This epic confrontation at the Calum Gate is but one of the many tales from the Segmentum Obscurus, a grim reminder of the harrowing trials endured by the brave heroes who dared to confront the Emperor’s traitorous sons. Their tales, though fragmented and scattered, continue to echo across the cosmos, a testament to their relentless pursuit of victory amidst the inferno of conflict.
