Title: The Spider’s Web: A Warhammer 40,000 Tale
In the darkness of the void, around the orbit of Desar, prowled a multitude of void ships, the silent hunters of the cosmos. This silent ballet of deadly machines was not lost on The Spider, who keenly understood the potential of such allies – or were they vassals?
In his dealings with The Enlightener, he hinted at the necessity for swift action, a decisive blow to their common enemy. Argento Coran, focused on the pursuing fleet of Torch Bearers, soon became aware of the larger threat. Typhus, The Traveler, and his Plague Marines, a force of destruction and despair that could not be ignored.
Fabius Bile, known as The Spider, had prepared for the rage that might erupt from this revelation. However, it never came. The Elixir, a brew of bio-enhancement and dependency, kept Coran’s rage at bay. His mind and body were now bound to the Spider’s cause, aided by invasive enhancements to his nervous system. The Spider had effectively ensnared another pawn in his web.
Their enemy, Typhus, was close. The Terminus Est, a dreaded ship of the Plague Marines, was but a few days away from Desar, followed by a flotilla of plague-infested ships. The Penitent Sorcerers’ predictions were clear; their battle would be a severe one. A preemptive strike was their only hope, a strategy to bleed Typhus enough to force a retreat.
Liais, a habitable planet within the system, was chosen as the location for their ambush. Once a prosperous planet, Liais had suffered a mysterious catastrophe, submerging its continents under water and leaving only a solitary isle, the Drowning Wastes, as dry land. A perfect, albeit risky, location for their battle.
Half of The Enlightener’s forces were mobilized, accompanied by the first contingent of monstrous Shriven, the Terata. The Spider supplemented the troops with his secret technologies, a strategic move that would aid them in the upcoming battle.
Typhus, led to their location by demonic Predators, ordered an attack on the warship orbiting Liais. The ship, emitting distress signals over the Vox network, was torn apart by Typhus’s forces and crashed onto the swampy planet.
However, The Spider had planned for this. The crashing ship was not a loss, but a trap. The wreckage, investigated by Typhus’s troops, held not valuable artifacts, but a bomb. The explosion ripped through the Plague Marines, a first blow in the battle.
Even as the echoes of the explosion faded, a new threat emerged. Black ships of the Shriven appeared among the Plague Fleet, their surprise attack leaving trails of destruction in the void. As the Plague Fleet scattered to counter the attack, the battle for Liais had only just begun.
