In the shadowed realm of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, few figures inspire as much awe and dread as the Inquisitors of the Ordo Malleus. Today, we delve into the life and legendary battles of one such figure – Lord Inquisitor Hector Rex.
Imagine if you will, a figure of such renown that he is gifted with relics from the Emperor himself, treasures drawn from the deepest stasis chambers, rewards meant only for the greatest heroes of the Ordo Malleus. This is Hector Rex, a towering figure around whom hundreds of acolytes, familiars and servants orbit, managing his daily affairs and oftentimes, following him into the depths of battle.
When Hector Rex descends upon the battlefield, it is a sight to behold. Accompanying him are exorcists, ecclesiarchy priests with a divine mandate to banish demons through the sheer power of their faith, acolytes battle-hardened from their time in the Imperial Guard, Inquisition Storm Troopers, and a motley crew of sages and mystics. With the might of operatives from the Officio Assassinorum and drop troops from the esteemed chapter of the Grey Knights at his disposal, the Ordo Malleus’ military wing serves as a formidable extension of his will.
One of the most fabled operations led by Lord Inquisitor Hector Rex is the assault on a heretic fortress during the Siege of Vrax. Using the Emperor’s Tarot, Hector Rex foretold a dire prophecy – a simple uprising could potentially lead to the planet’s fall, transforming it into a demon world. To thwart this catastrophic outcome, he requested the entire 88th Regiment of the Death Korps of Krieg to be under his command, a move that stirred controversy within the Ordo Hereticus.
However, Hector Rex, with the assistance of the Grey Knights, managed to wrest control over the Imperial forces on Vrax, and led them against the heretical uprising. In the heat of battle, he found himself face to face with Angrath the Unbound, a demon of Khorne. Surrounded by holy light, Hector fought like a man possessed, eventually uttering the demon’s true name, a move that flung Angrath aside as if he were struck by a Warhound Class Titan.
Channeling his psychic might through his sword, the Inquisitor struck a fatal blow, plunging his weapon deep into the demon’s chest. Angrath, cut off from the life-sustaining energy of the warp, cried out in despair before dissolving back into the chaos from whence he came.
Despite the victory, Hector Rex placed the planet under the quarantine of the Ordo Malleus, ordering Imperial Fleet patrols to shoot down any ship that dared enter the system.
In a twist of fate, we turn our gaze to a different scene. A table, two figures appearing before it. One, robed in black, face hidden by a deep hood. The other, clad in the heavy carapace armor of an Inquisition Stormtrooper. They bring news to their superior, Inquisitor Leedberg, of his pending elevation to the rank of Lord Inquisitor, a revelation that leaves him lost in thought.
Such is the life in the grim darkness of the far future, where the battle between good and evil is a never-ending saga, and heroes like Hector Rex stand as the bulwark against the encroaching darkness. Join us next time as we continue to explore the intricate tapestry of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
