Welcome back, fellow lore enthusiasts, for another deep dive into the mystifying annals of Warhammer 40,000 lore. Today, we’re shedding light on the fascinating saga of the Seven Hammers Talisman, an artifact of enormous power, and its intrinsic connection to the Throne World and the enigmatic Primarch Vulkan.
The Seven Hammers Talisman holds a place of monumental importance in the tapestry of the Warhammer universe. Created by none other than the Emperor himself, this Doomsday weapon was designed to obliterate the Throne World should Horus ever prevail. The responsibility of activating this apocalyptic weapon was bestowed upon Vulkan, the Lord of Drakes. The talisman was meticulously installed into the Golden Throne, with Vulkan standing guard at the Eternity Gate, prepared for the final battle for Terra.
The narrative becomes nebulous when discussing the events that befell the 18th Legion, the Salamanders, following the Great Heresy. Only the silent Librarians of the Salamanders might hold the truth of what transpired. When Rabut Gilman penned the Codex Astartes, ordering a reformation of the forces, Vulkan initially sided with those who did not support the Ultramarines’ Primar’s idea. However, even the staunch Lord of Drakes eventually reconciled with the innovation, valuing the safety of the Imperium over the integrity of the Legion.
The Salamanders’ decision was significantly influenced by the depletion they suffered during the events on Istvaan V, leaving them barely enough for a single chapter. Vulkan’s final fate is a hotbed of debate and speculation. Some sources claim that he led his chapter for 3,000 years post the Horus Heresy before venturing into the uncharted expanses of space, a mission he never disclosed to anyone.
Vulkan’s tale takes a further mysterious turn with the Tome of Fire. Before his enigmatic departure, he left this tome for his sons, within which he had encrypted the locations of nine artifacts. He promised his return from his long-distance mission once the Salamanders tracked down all the relics, proving their worthiness.
By the 41st Millennium, five of these relics have been located. Three, including the famed Kar’s Mantle, are safeguarded in Vulkan’s homeland, while the Master of the Chapter keeps the other two in the fortress on Prometheus. The quest for the remaining four continues, and only time will tell when the Salamanders will bring back to humanity its most compassionate protector.
Stay tuned for more captivating lore from the cosmos of Warhammer 40,000, as we continue to explore the fascinating tales of courage, sacrifice, and mystery.
