Vulkan: Guardian of Humanity – Part 9

The Betrayal That Shook Primarch Vulkan: A Warhammer 40,000 Saga

In the chaotic universe of Warhammer 40,000, nothing cuts deeper than the sting of betrayal. The saga of Primarch Vulkan is a testament to this pain, a tale of brotherhood, treachery, and indomitable spirit.

Vulkan, the immortal lord of the Salamanders, was betrayed by his brothers, a wound that no blade or shot could inflict. Enraged, Vulkan charged towards the Iron Lord’s forces, leaving the Pyre Guard trailing in his wake. The crossfire was brutal, hundreds of Astartes falling in the first seconds after the deception was revealed. Yet, the Salamanders held their ground, refusing to retreat even under the threat of death.

Despite the vicious onslaught, the 18th Legion pressed on. As they advanced on the Iron Warriors’ positions, Perturabo, the Iron Lord himself, unleashed a missile that resembled a fiery horseshoe. A nightmarish arc of flame soared into the sky before collapsing back to the ground, tearing apart anyone unfortunate enough to be in the impact zone.

The aftermath was catastrophic. Tanks were reduced to tattered metal, their crews burned alive. Legionnaires who survived the wave of crushing fire were ripped apart by a storm of shrapnel. A gigantic crater formed on the battlefield, its slopes strewn with burnt-out war machines and the remains of Vulkan’s sons. The electromagnetic pulse from the missile destroyed the Vox link, cutting off the possibility of tactical organization, leaving the survivors only one viable strategy – retreat to the landing site.

In the immediate aftermath of the battle, witnesses claimed Vulkan was badly wounded and evacuated to a ship by his Pyre Guard. But the truth of the Salamander Primarch’s fate was far grimmer.

Vulkan, unlike most of his sons, survived Perturabo’s missile strike and continued to fight the Iron Warriors and Night Lords surrounding him. Resigned to his fate, he fought with a desperate ferocity, intending to take as many traitors with him as possible. Yet, the sheer weight of numbers eventually overwhelmed him. Vulkan was captured and shackled aboard the Night Lord’s ship, where he would endure unimaginable torment at the hands of his brother, Konrad Curze.

For months, Curze tried to break Vulkan, both physically and mentally. Despite his cruel efforts, he discovered a shocking truth – Vulkan was an Eternal. His body could continuously regenerate, making him virtually immortal. Unperturbed, Curze decided to break Vulkan’s spirit, subjecting him to horrific trials designed to shatter his will.

In his darkest moments, Vulkan was haunted by a twisted apparition of Ferrus Manus, a once-beloved brother. This spectral figure was a cruel reminder of Vulkan’s guilt over Ferrus’s death, a torment that refused to fade.

At Curze’s request, Perturabo built a room, a grotesque trap filled with innocent lives at one end and the chained Primarch at the other. The stage was set for the next chapter of Vulkan’s torment, a testament to the depths of treachery and the resilience of the Salamander Lord.

Stay tuned for the next installment in this series, as we delve deeper into this tale of treachery and resilience in the grim darkness of the far future.
