War of the Beast – When the Imperium Could Have Ended – Part 1

Greetings, fellow Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts! Today, we delve into another thrilling installment of our multi-part series, focusing on an intriguing subset of the Imperium’s history – a time of triumph and treachery, of resilience and ruin. Buckle up, grab your bolters, and prepare for an epic journey through the cosmos!

Our tale begins in the glorious annals of the Imperium’s past. The Great Crusade, the Horus Heresy, the Long War, the Fall of Cadia – epoch-defining events that are etched in the blood of trillions, spanning a tumultuous 10,000 years. But our focus today is not on these well-known sagas. Instead, we’re exploring the lesser-known, yet equally captivating, Triumph on Alor.

Before His Ascension to the Golden Throne, the Emperor of Mankind vanquished one of the galaxy’s greatest empires. This monumental victory, recorded in archival records as the Triumph on Alor, was thought to signal the end of the Greenskins. But alas, this was a hope destined to be shattered.

Enter the Beast, an orc war boss of unparalleled strength and size. His arrival marked an end to the Imperium’s dreams of a Greenskin-free galaxy. War in the Warhammer world is not merely conquest or skirmishes for resources. It’s an existential struggle, a genocide, a war to the last man standing. Victory lies not in overcoming the enemy, but in completely obliterating them.

Fast forward to the 32nd Millennium. The Imperium, having weathered the death of Horus Lupercal and the Great Scouring, was gradually regaining its strength. All seemed quiet on the galactic front, with the Chaos traitors embroiled in their own conflicts, and the xenos largely pushed to the galaxy’s periphery. Little did they know, disaster was lurking in the shadows.

In the midst of this deceptive calm, the Imperium’s space fleet, under the command of the competent yet politically controversial High Lord Admiral Lansung, was dispatched to the border regions of space. However, a routine operation to exterminate xenos on the planet Ardamantua spiraled into a catastrophic event.

In a shocking turn of events, Ardamantua was besieged by an artificial planetoid teeming with orc hordes – the Beast and his followers had returned, seeking vengeance for Alor. Amidst this chaos, the Lord Commander Militant Heth, an embodiment of courage and leadership, made a final stand. Before his flagship was destroyed, Heth managed to send a warning to Terra. Thus began the War of the Beast.

The battle at Ardamantua was a brutal massacre, marking a tragic period for humanity and the Imperium. Nevertheless, the remnants of the Imperial Fists Chapter and their battle fleet raced to the aid of their beleaguered comrades. But the Imperials had severely underestimated the might of their enemy.

Such is the nature of war in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It’s a brutal, unending cycle of triumph and tragedy, of resilience and ruin. So, my fellow enthusiasts, until the next installment, remember – in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
