What Led to the Fall of Cadia? – Part 6

Title: “The Last Stand of Cadia: Celestine’s Radiance and Creed’s Resolve”

In the grim darkness of the far future, where the only certainty is war, the planet of Cadia stood as a bulwark against the encroaching tides of Chaos. The stern-faced Lord Castellan, Ursarkar E. Creed, held his ground with unwavering resolve, his every action driven by a deep sense of responsibility towards the preservation of his beloved Cadia and the Mechanicus.

During one such brutal encounter, an unknown hero gave his life to protect the machines that were crucial in the fight against Chaos. As he fell, torn apart by the enraged Beast, a rare smile graced Creed’s stern visage for the first time in many years. His sacrifice was not in vain, for in that moment of despair, a golden glow split the promethium-choked skies of Cadia.

Emerging from the glow was a winged figure, a beacon of hope in the midst of darkness – the living Saint Celestine herself. With her, a vast army of the Adepta Sororitas swept into the battlefield, their hymns and prayers echoing around the vicinity of Kazak. The Emperor’s beloved daughter charged towards the command bunker, her radiant blade striking down Uranos, the leader of the Chaos horde, sending his screaming essence tumbling back into the warp.

Meanwhile, in the space above Cadia, a mighty fortress ship of the Imperial Fists, a relic from the time of the Emperor himself, emerged. This colossal ship, the venerable Phalanx, was more akin to a small planetoid than a mere vessel. It had served as a revered guardian over Holy Terra, participating in countless battles over the centuries, many won by mere virtue of its awe-inspiring presence.

Despite years of service, the Phalanx was not without its scars. Recent attacks by Chaos had left it damaged, with about 10% of its structure irreparably destroyed. Under the leadership of Tor Garadon, the Sons of Dorn managed to defend the ship, with aid from the enigmatic Legion of the Damned, spectral Space Marines who emerged from the warp in moments of utmost desperation.

In an unexpected turn of events, after their victory, the Legion of the Damned did not dissipate back into the warp. Instead, they stood, motionless, in the sacred halls of the Phalanx. At that moment, a call to arms from Creed was received, and Tor Garadon made the only possible decision – full speed ahead to Cadia.

Emerging from the warp near the planet, Garadon’s remaining guns swept away an entire horde of Chaos ships, crushing their ranks. The Imperial Fists then directed all their weapon systems against the Will of Eternity, forcing the Blackstone Fortress to retreat.

For a while, peace reigned on Cadia – if it could be called that. The survivors busied themselves with purifying the fallen and constructing new fortifications, knowing full well that Abaddon the Despoiler would soon come to settle scores.

In the midst of these preparations, the last reinforcement arrived – Belisarius Cawl, the Archmagos Dominus, and his Skitarii legions. Engrossed in his studies of the mysterious pylons on Iliaad 6, Cawl had heeded the call of Cadia, bringing with him a glimmer of hope. He believed that if he could unlock the secrets of the Cadian pylons, the tide of the war could be turned…

Stay tuned for the next installment of this epic saga, where the fate of Cadia hangs in the balance, and the indomitable spirit of its defenders shines brighter than ever.
