Welcome back to our action-packed multi-part series diving deep into the Warhammer 40,000 lore. In today’s chapter, we’ll focus on the high-stakes campaign led by Logan Grimnar, the commander of the Deus Estar’s command council.
Grimnar, upon reestablishing contact with his fellow Chapter Masters engaged in combat throughout the region, made the strategic call to focus all Aar’s efforts on defending the Cardian, Bellis Corona, and Agripina sectors. With the newly arrived Chapters now in the mix, an aggressive coordinated attack was launched, designed to obliterate the invaders in one fell swoop.
The fate of the mission, however, rested on an uneasy truce. The Dark Angels and the Space Wolves, two of the greatest Aares chapters, needed to put aside their long-standing disputes for the defense to succeed. Meanwhile, the traitor legion’s forces, consumed by hatred for their former battle brothers, joined the fray, engaging the Space Marines in every theatre of the war with bloodlust.
Amongst the legendary warriors defending Imperial space from Abadin’s invasion were the Blood Angels, Black Templars, Imperial Fists, Howling Griffins, and White Scars. With their arrival, the Imperium finally had a fighting chance to repel the 13th Black Crusade.
Four companies of the Blood Angels, in particular, took up the call to arms to defend the Cadan Gate. Arriving in the midst of conflict, they immediately engaged the Chaos hordes besieging Agria. Their target? None other than Kela the Forsworn, a notorious Chaos Champion of Corn, and his World Eater War band.
Their confrontation was reminiscent of the legendary clash between the Blood Angels’ Primarch Sanguinius and the Bloodthirster Cander at the Ultimate Gate during the Horus Heresy. The Blood Angels, in their signature style, brought the fight directly to their enemies.
In a desperate move, Kela, knowing his bodyguards stood no chance against the frenzied Sons of Sanguinius, invoked the Demons of Korn for aid. The summoning rite, disturbingly brutal in nature, saw the slaughter of their Chaos Cultist allies to gain the Blood God’s favor. Thousands were killed in mere hours, their blood flowing through Agrippina’s primary Hive City like rivers of gore.
Summoning was successful, and a Bloodthirster, an avatar of the Blood God, tore through reality to confront the Blood Angels. The ensuing battle was devastating, with the first Blood Angels to engage the Greater Demon ripped apart, their bodies devoured as a taunt to their battle brothers.
In the height of the battle, Sanguinary High Priest Numa confronted the Beast and delivered a blow that momentarily stunned it. However, the demon recovered swiftly, severing Numa’s arm and spilling the sacred Primark’s blood contained in the Blood Chalice he held. This sight sent shockwaves through the Blood Angels, but it also ignited a berserk rage within them.
Fueled by visions of their Primarch’s blood being spilled by a servant of Chaos, the Death Company went berserk. In a savage frenzy, they took down the Bloodthirster and expelled the World Eaters from Agrippina.
However, their victory was incomplete. Kela The Forsworn had vanished from the Hive City. Sanguinary High Priest Numitor vowed to hunt him down, no matter the cost. The Blood Angels, known for their dynamism and determination, continue to throw themselves into the Imperium’s greatest and most terrible wars, leaving even their brother Space Marines in awe.
In recent times, they found themselves stretched thin, fighting simultaneously in the Third War for Armageddon, against the horror of Hive Fleet Leviathan on the Shield Worlds of Cryptus, and in actions around the Eye of Terror. Despite the odds, they managed to prevail. Yet, their home world of Bal remained at risk, and new threats loomed on the horizon.
Stay tuned for the next installment of our series where we’ll delve into how Commander Dante and his finest battle brothers face the horrors of the Cryptoid Tendril, a Splinter Fleet of Hive Fleet Leviathan, and the new threat in the Deore system.
