Title: The Unseen War: Khan, Alarius, and the Betrayals of War
In the sprawling, cosmic drama that is Warhammer 40,000, no narrative is as engrossing, as rife with subterfuge and betrayal, as the tale of Khan, Rogal Dorn and the elusive Alarius. As part of this ongoing series, we delve into a particularly gripping chapter in this saga, a time of clandestine battles and surprising alliances that tested the mettle of even the mightiest Space Marines.
The story begins with Khan receiving a chilling message from Rogal Dorn, a revelation that would forever change the course of interstellar history – the Warm Betrayal. Alarius, the enigmatic Lord of Serpents, then set in motion a plan of chilling audacity. He commanded a portion of his fleet to ensnare the beleaguered Space Wolves in the Alaxis Nebula, exploiting their weakened state following their clash with the Thousand Sons on Prospero.
The confrontation with the Space Wolves, sons of Leman Russ, is believed by many to be a personal vendetta by the twins against past accusations from Russ, challenging the validity of their war methods. The truth of this assertion remains shrouded in mystery, yet there’s no denying that the 20th Legion’s assault pushed the Space Wolves to the brink of extinction.
At the height of this brutal conflict, a squad of elite Catafratii Terminators teleported onto Russ’s flagship. Among them, it is rumored, fought Alarius, cleverly masquerading as one of his own Space Marines. Just as the Space Wolves were on the cusp of annihilation, the Dark Angels made a sudden and unexpected appearance. Alarius, not one to recklessly gamble against two loyal Legions, wisely retreated.
As the war raged on, Alarius continued his mastery of subterfuge, taking on the persona of Shadrach Medison, a renowned officer of the Iron Hands. Using his disguise to exploit the Space Marines’ trust, he launched a hunt for the loyalist Astartes of the 20th Legion. Despite his deception eventually coming to light, Alarius had achieved his grim objectives.
Meanwhile, an intricate network of secret agents, composed of Space Marines, slaves, and even mortal women, operated unbeknownst to Dorn, who was preoccupied with transforming the Solar System into a supposedly impregnable fortress. Alarius, however, saw Dorn’s efforts as a challenge, an opportunity not just to assert dominance, but to humiliate Dorn.
The Lord of Serpents devised a daring plan to infiltrate the safest place in the galaxy – the Imperial Palace. His audacious plot culminated in an orchestrated explosion that left only two statues in the sacred Investary intact – those of Rogal Dorn and Alarius himself. This cryptic message was kept hidden even from Malcador the Sigite and the Custodes.
Upon discovering his brother’s treacherous actions, Dorn vowed to annihilate Alarius, acting swiftly when reports surfaced of the Alpha Legion’s presence near Pluto’s outskirts. However, penetrating Dorn’s formidable fortifications required more than brute force. Alarius, employing his cunning and patience, managed to drift undetected into the Solar System, aided by the chaos caused by his secret agents.
In a final act of deceit, Alarius instigated an uprising, aiming to seize control of the astropath observation center. Leading the assault on Hydra, Alarius found himself face-to-face with forces under the command of the Imperial Fists Legion’s first Captain, Sigismund. Despite the surprise attack and superior numbers, the Imperial Defenders remained unbowed, setting the stage for the next thrilling chapter in this epic saga.
