In the grim darkness of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, no area is as shrouded in mystery and terror as the Eye of Terror itself, the birthplace of unimaginable calamities, and the epicentre of the infamous Black Crusades. This is where our story unfolds, where the Traitor Legions retreated after the Horus Heresy, and from where they have been launching their assaults on the Imperium for countless centuries.
The Imperium, fully aware of the potential danger emanating from this part of the Galaxy, has not taken these threats lightly. The Eye of Terror is separated from the rest of the Imperium by a quarantine cordon, a fortress of sectors and sub-sectors, each a beacon of defiance against the insidious forces of Chaos. Among these are Bellis Corona, Agripinaa, Scarus, and the legendary Cadia, sectors infamous for their bloody battles against the tide of Chaos.
The Cadian sector, in particular, stands as a symbol of the Imperium’s resistance against the Chaos onslaught. The region has been fortified over 10,000 years, a bulwark against the madness threatening to engulf the Imperium of Man. Despite the destruction of its main stronghold, Cadia, in the last attack by Abadon, the sector continues to resist, becoming a theatre of unending war.
In the heart of this resistance lies Bellis Corona, the sector serving as the central concentration of the Imperial Navy forces. Its expansive orbital shipyards, capable of docking the entire Battle Fleet Obscurus, are listed among the wonders of the Imperium in the Von Hef’s Glorium Imperialis. Though somewhat distant from Cadia, it falls within the Cadian Gate system, and with the onset of the 13th Black Crusade, it too finds itself on the front lines of the Great War.
Adjacent to the Eye of Terror, the Scarus sector, the most densely populated of all, stands as a testament to the Imperium’s tenacity. With its six Hive worlds, numerous mining and Agri-worlds, and two Forge Worlds, Nissa Stolo and MX Prime, it provides an unyielding defence against the Chaos forces.
The Agripinaa sector, once a key link in the defence of the Cadian Gate and a major producer of weapons and ammunition, now lies in ruins following the 13th Black Crusade. This once prosperous sector, which produced countless regiments for the Imperial Guard, now represents a scorched desert, a grim reminder of the price of war.
Amid this maelstrom of war and chaos, the Boris Gate, located within the Segmentum Obscurus, serves as a crucial yet lesser-known line of defence against the warbands of the Eye of Terror. For 10,000 years, both the Imperium and Chaos have directed their efforts towards the Cadian sector, rendering the Boris Gate secondary. Yet, the enemies of humanity have repeatedly attempted to break through, making this region a crucial strategic point in the war against Chaos.
As we delve deeper into the lore of Warhammer 40,000, the significance of these sectors and their role in the ongoing war against Chaos becomes increasingly clear. They are more than just names on a map; they are the bastions of the Imperium, the last line of defence against the horrors of the Eye of Terror. Each represents a chapter in the ongoing saga of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Imperium in the face of overwhelming odds.
