Inquisition – The Emperor’s Left Hand – Part 13

Blog Post Title: “Inquisitor Tokada Kotas: A Tale of Unyielding Purity in the Warhammer 40k Universe”

When we delve into the annals of the grim Warhammer 40k universe, we often encounter tales of individuals whose actions have been shaped by the powers they hold. The perspective from which we view these stories is largely influenced by the storyteller’s prejudices, and the likeness of their views to those of the Inquisitor at the centre of the narrative. Today, we explore the life and deeds of Inquisitor Tokada Kotas, a compelling figure whose actions are driven by an insatiable desire to annihilate demons wherever they surface.

Tokada Kotas, the stalwart defender of Formosa, has a moral compass that is unwavering in its direction. He flatly refuses to entertain the thought of harnessing the power of the warp for personal gain and is unflinchingly committed to punishing those who do not share his impeccable spiritual purity. His mentor, Inquisitor Laridian, fell victim to Kotas’s ruthless resolve, executed personally by his disciple for dabbling in the forbidden arts.

Upon replacing Laridian as the protector, Kotas established an intricate network of spies, enforcers, and infiltrators spanning the entire Formosa sector. He brokered alliances, made entreaties, and issued threats, all for the sake of maintaining control. Relying mostly on his personal army, he seldom exercised his Inquisitorial mandate to requisition fighters. It is worth noting how effectively he controlled the Planetary Defense Force regiments and Hive gangs, who, in exchange for minor criminal leniency, informed on their peers.

At first glance, Kotas’s hold on multiple planets might seem like a cautionary tale about the dangers of absolute power. But the truth is far from it. Kotas has no ambition to rule Formosa. His network of informants focuses solely on notifying him of substantial threats to the sector. This approach has proven extremely effective, making Formosa a difficult ground for traitors to sow seeds of discord.

Kotas’s commitment to his work is extraordinary. He spends most of his waking hours reading reports delivered by faithful cyber eagles or directing anti-demon combat operations. His influence has expanded, bringing more worlds under his protection, yet with increased domain comes increased worry. Aging and concerned about leaving his work uncompleted, Kotas is now hunting for a successor who matches his fervour and willpower.

In his quest for a solution, Kotas has begun exploring the forgotten science of cloning and rejuvenating technologies. Despite his desperate situation, Kotas is well aware that demons could offer him the longevity he seeks. However, he has so far resisted the temptation to summon and subdue a demon – a small evil, he believes, that could potentially fortify his legacy.

On the other side of the spectrum stands Fodor Karamazov, the Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus. Known for his relentless and ruthless pursuit of corruption and heresy, Karamazov holds an unshakeable belief that humanity is living according to a divine plan set in motion centuries ago by the emperor. His life’s mission is to prevent anyone, human or xenos, Inquisitor or demon, from disrupting this plan.

Karamazov’s confidence in his abilities and the foresight of the Lord of men are unwavering. He operates under the belief that as an Inquisitor, his actions are integral to the Emperor’s plan and therefore above reproach. Unlike many agents of the throne who prefer operating under a veil of secrecy, Karamazov’s methods are unapologetically transparent…

Stay tuned for more on the lives of these fascinating Inquisitors in the next instalment of our series, where we continue to explore their actions, their motivations, and their indelible impact on the Warhammer 40k universe.
